Late to the boat, but here's my opinion on this album after just a few listens:
1) The last minute or so of "Taming Leeches With Fire" literally gives me a seizure. Might be the heaviest thing I've ever heard and does to my ears what a strobe light might do to an epileptic boy.
2) "Hushabye: Goddnight" is great, probably the best track with the word "hushabye" in it ever.
3) Wilding is fantastic and absolutely beautiful.
4) This album took a while to grow on me and I hated it after the first listen.

Point 1 is a positive, btw, if I was unclear. But yeah, 10 full listens and each one was better than the last. I've had This Sheltering Night sine the day it was released but I wanted to listen to Croatoan first. Also, I agree with your review 100%. A few awkward moments kind of hold this record back, but man, I'm still shocked at what a grower this was. Everyone needs to try this under-appreciated gem.

ive only heard their early stuff... it was pretty heavy and ahead of its time but a bit repetetive. sweet vox
|
| |
Their early stuff is really cool, but it doesn't sound like this or this sheltering night

Ok so it's been like two years since this thread was bumped, but Translation Loss records quoted the last line of this review for a reissue they just released.

Gay nu metal vocals'
hahah worst take ever that man
Vox are fucking tremendous. I get peeps dont like the clean vox. They take a while. Hes purposefully off key Its hardly Linken park. Theyre unique. Uncomfortable and his more M3TAL Screams And deeper vox are fking evil. Amazing band.
