Whoa, This Dying Soul sounds really really similar to The Shattered Fortress at some points.

It's supposed to. They're both part of a series of songs that's about Portnoy going through the twelve-step process for his alcoholism. Each song builds on the last and reuses melodies and riffs from previous installments. The Shattered Fortress was the final one.

I like all of the songs obviously, but I'll only listen to a couple DT songs at a time these days. I
listened to them so much last year that I burned out on them. Endless Sacrifice is still my favorite
from this.

Excellent album, Endless Sacrifice is my favourite track too.

I loved this album about 3 years ago.
I truthfully do not give a shit about DT at all anymore. I've completely outgrown this band.

I have to say, I think This Dying Soul is a much better song than Endless Sacrifice. This Dying Soul is a fun song all the way through, i've never been able to listen to Endless Sacrifice from start to finish without getting bored of it.
