this is underwhelming, just wanted to say that I absolutely love the first three albums and don't understand the Vedder comparisons whatsoever...I always thought Weiland had one of the most distinct voices in 90's alternative

way to be on top of things btw Veds...

I never have either, but the critics pretty much made that the general consensus

it kinda underwhelmed me too initially, but it's definitely a grower. i think it's as good as shangri-la; it has a lot of weak tracks (cinnamon is utterly irritating, "hearmecanyouhearme"...UGH) but the good ones are really really good, and strong enough to carry the album.

Huckleberry Crumble is soooooooo addicting...
And yeah, i never really got the Vedder comparisons either. Then again, i'm one of the people who got into STP before getting into Pearl Jam. I think both are great bands, but still.... i've never heard that similarity. If ANYONE'S ripping off Eddie Vedder, it's Scott Stapp.

Yeah Huckleberry is deliciousness. Enjoying so far, nothing special. But def not bad.
And I'm back. Very enjoyable record. Lacks in the chorus but the verses and music keep me entertained.
Also, anyone else notice it doesn't even sound like Scott sometimes?

I like what they did on this album a lot. It has some of their roots, yet it's a shiny and vibrant new sound. Unlike Hole, they didn't hold on to the past. Loved the CD.

for sure, mvdu... that's one thing i've always like about stp, none of their albums really sound the same

It's as good as I expected but it's not the comeback album I wanted them to make.

May 25? It was in the record store today when I went. I was going to get it but got SG's Down on the Upside instead.

Blindsided - if you're a fan, give it a chance. I'm glad I took a listen anyway after reading the review.

It's utterly unremarkable but not godawful. And it does NOT sound like Purple or Core - that's its biggest problem IMO. A few songs in the vein of "Interstate Love Song", "Dead And Bloated", "Crackerman", or even "Vasoline" would have really helped balance it out. I'm also not a big fan of the production, too compressed and lifeless.

Nahh wasn't a sample it was the actual album. I will get it though.

pretty much agreed, although you like this a bit more than I. I never said this sounded like Core or Purple on the whole.
