This album came out when I was a man confused. I didn't even know what music I was into; the Strokes garage scene and London coolie-cool indie scene had just exploded and I hated both equally with a blatant sense of prejudice. Somehow these guys escaped my all-encompassing scrutiny of 'new music' and I was able to give 'em a chance. What an album!

Six months before the Arctic Monkeys took the world by storm, another English quartet also delivered an excellent debut LP. Comprising a diverse range of musical styles, Hard-Fi's 'Stars Of CCTV' is catchy in a pleasingly unorthodox manner. More than that, it includes some authentic & relatable working class storytelling, which cleverly combines serious social commentaries with fun lad exploits. And while it contains 5 UK Top 15 singles, the album's main strength lies in its consistency, with practically each of the 11 tracks being worthy of release. Recommended Tracks: Tied Up Too Tight, Better Do Better, Cash Machine & Move On Now.

more terrible post-Oasis dirge, these guys were amongst the absolute worst of them & probably only surpassed by The Enemy

Interesting that you mentioned the NME, it had become such a god-awful publication by this point

I can’t stand the lyrics, they’re so shallow & dumb. It’s about the most surface level ‘guitar music’ I’ve heard, made for people who don’t even like indie (except bloc of course).

The aesthetic is all wrong & unfortunately these guys are in the 5% of artists where that actually matters to me, I can’t even just ‘hear the music’, I find it culturally offensive.

It’s essentially how I feel about Oasis but with worse music (somehow).

Hahaha, dude they're so fuckin funny though. I especially love Cash Machine. I mean, the lyrics are far from being poetic but I can imagine a lot of people can relate to them in some way.

I love how much you hate British music sometimes though, makes me laugh.

I detest bad British music with a prominent ‘common British bloke’ aesthetic, most definitely
