shoddy metaphors such as “buzzing white noise, it sounds like 100 bees.”
To be nit-picky, that's a simile, not a metaphor.

Thank fucking god someone else is critical of this album. I loved Leitmotif, I'd probably give it a 4/5, but I just never understood this album. The vocals & lyrics are horrible, and the album just doesn't seem to have any direction or purpose.

I actually always wanted someone to give this a review that was (at least somewhat) negative. Thanks for that and it was a good review, pos'd. I actually love the vocals though.
Also I lol'd at:
"Maybe you've never heard vocals like this... maybe you've never been through them? It's the only way to understand them."

Great review, it was well-written. However, I have a couple of counter-arguments.
First, although I don't have any qualms with the lyrics (I think they're quite good and quite different than anything you'll find elsewhere), I must point out that they were composed in large part by various people who had written letters to the band, explaining their battles and experiences with sleep paralysis or astral projection (the concepts of the album). Thus, the "one hundred bees" simile - which I don't find that bad - was not actually written by the band.
Second, I think his vocals fit the music excellently. You ask for anger...but is there an angry note contained in this album? No, it's rather a euphoric trip through a dream in which the only emotion is a rather detached serenity, the vocals flowing smoothly over the music.
Nevertheless, I loved the review. Great work.

I would really love dredg if he didn't sing like that. It sound like some guy getting a little too into his church hymnals.

Interesting, did not know that about this album.
Thanks all.

Nice review. i'd actually rather have gavin sing for a prog band than another james labrie trying to be overly majestic. i do agree with the lyrics however.
this album is sex sometimes though
