Its mainly opinion, but to call Green Day a teen girl group when your username specifically says that your a fan of the Beatles, thats not exactly a smart comment.

i dont know what the hell your all talkin about this is a great album and has a clearly punk message that shouldnt be ignored i think it deserves the 4 and 4.5 ratings its getting in other reviews

Sigh.... I feel as though Im all alone. Basket Case your the only one who sees this album for what it is. Most people are blinded by the hate of the overplayed singles.

And Im trelling you their old stuff was a blend of punk and talent. Mike's basswork was fantastic and Tre was still considered a great drummer.

I don't hear anything 'punk' when I listen to Green Day, I don't hear them doing anything new and I dont hear any rebellion when I listen to them.
|
| |
I just listened to two or three tracks of this album, it's so bad, really...

Green Day did change, but really not as much as people seem to think. I think that the lyrics just got political and they changed their attitude. They barely changed though compared to what happened to bands like Radiohead from OK Computer to Kid A. It's still a bunch of power cords thrown together to make a pop-punk song
I also realize and hate all the Green Day t shirts

I really like this album, it is just a next step from punk music.
i dont want to call them sellouts.
First punk was just fast, simple riffs but now they've chosen a new path. good work greenday!!

it seems that Hobo Head is obviously incompetent because he never said he didnt like their new music he merely stated that you should listen to their old music because you hate this album....yea it would make sense to tell you to listen to an album you clearly dont like for what ever reason and expect it to change your mind....and i still dont seem to understand how they are musically appalling considering ive been to a concert of theirs and he nailed everything perfectly including the solos and playing behind his head when you have an example that can actually be believed maybe someone would listen to you

I really don't like this album, or this band for that matter. I think that this album is simply an evolution of Simple Plan or Good Charlotte, but not a very good one. Ever since bands like the Ramones and The Sex Pistols stopped making good music, punk music in general has been slipping steadily into the realm of boring mainstream trash, with no redeeming value, save a few moments.
|
| |
I actually started liking this crap a few days ago. Like, some of the riffs on Jesus Of Suburbia are nice... But, it's still bad.
And, yes, punk has being dying. True punk WAS the early Ramones, Sex Pistols, and Offspring.
|
| |
I don't even like putting the Offspring in the same sentence as the Ramones and Sex Pistols when talking about true punk.
|
| |
What's wrong with offspring, well, maybe a few of their singles weren't that nice, but Most of Americana [1999] is punk.
|
| |
I don't really see Americana as "pure punk" I see it as the beginning of punks gentle decline into the mainstream.
|
| |
^^^haha i agree with the sn thing and you cant compare green day with whiny emo but they are a part of the same genre so i can see why he said it
Even if you don't like the album there can be no doubt that it's better than anything Simple Plan or Good Charolotte(who by the way are pop not pop-punk) ever did.
Oh noez!
And from what I remember, his screen name is NOT taken from the Linkin Park album.

When he played a solo behind his back, it was a two-note solo and he completely screwed it up, but for some reason he tried another one later. Green Day is fun live, but not necessarily good.
And for this album, the quality of it has diminished. It doesn't have replay value.

Hold on. I am against people saying any of Green Day's album's are lackluster. So don't speak.
Yeah, you better not mean Nimrod. Hitchin A Ride, Good Riddance, Uptight (that's where I got my name from: the chourus) Redundant, do any of those ring a bell?
Great Review.
