I thought I'd have more time to do #50 and then this since I wanna do the whole discography.

Thanks styles though, I'm a little confused as to what you are saying. I was always under the impression that bands like Carcass really put melodic death metal into motion. The gothenberg kind is just a different style.

Carcass didn't put out a melodic death album until 1993's Heartwork, by which time numerous bands had been around for years in the Gothenburg scene.

the Gothenburg style and melodic death metal are basically the same thing, it's just named after the town where it was 'made famous'
|

Alright, thanks. i was always a little confused about that.

what I'm saying is that at the moment, it reads like you're stating Gothenburg riffs are something else but not melodeath riffs, while in truth, thats exactly what they are. When you say that "While the band have always delivered in the way of giving listeners phenomenal, Gothenburg-style riff" and then follow it with "there has always been a strong melodic aspect to their music", it doesn't make sense because Gothenburg riffs = melodic riffs used in melodeath. And when the riffs are originally already melodic, there's no point of stating again that Dark Tranquillity's riffs are melodic. Does that make sense to you?

I understand the melodic riff/gothenberg thing, but I was referiing to Stanne's vocal melodies in that passage. There's almost always a strong verse/chorus layout that's really catchy.
Thank you for going into detail though ;)
Edit: I added a few more words to clarify that in the review.

well idk, maybe add a bit to that sentence then to make it sound better. Maybe add that Stanne part; something like this: there has always been a strong melodic aspect to their music in the face of Stanne's vocal melodies

I think it's a bit misleading to so suddenly switch from talking about melodic riffing to melodic singing, I know you mention choruses and "sing-a-longs" but when I first read the review I thought you were still talking about the riffs, only during the choruses.
nvm saw you fixed it haha

Yeah, that was a good point though; I'm glad you pointed that out.

Character is just as boring as this IMO, a few good tracks lost in a sea of boring.

Hahaha that's been my stance for quite a while now, Character is a grossly overrated album.
