Paranoid is meh, get Sabotage and Master of Reality.

Paranoid is their best, and almost every song is phenomenal. Rat Salad doesn't really count, and the title track, which was originally meant as filler anyway, is nothing more than pretty good. Sabotage is the least rewarding of their first six imo. Master of Reality, on the other hand, is one of the best they ever did.

Excellent review, Nagrarok, this was a great piece of writing

‘Still falls the rain, the veils of darkness shroud the blackened trees, which, contorted by some unseen violence, shed their tired leaves, and bend their boughs toward a grey earth of severed bird wings, among the grasses, poppies bleed before a gesticulating death, and young rabbits, born dead in traps, stand motionless, as though guarding the silence that surrounds and threatens to engulf all those that would listen. Mute birds, tired of repeating yesterdays terrors, huddle together in the recesses of dark corners, heads turned from the dead, black swan that floats upturned in a small pool in the hollow. There emerges from this pool a faint sensual mist, that traces its way upwards to caress the chipped feet of the headless martyr’s statue, whose only achievement was to die too soon, and who couldn’t wait to lose.

The cataract of darkness form fully, the long black night begins, yet still, by the lake a young girl waits, unseeing she believes herself unseen, she smiles, faintly at the distant tolling bell, and the still falling rain.’

I haven't heard the album, so are these actual lyrics from it, or did you write these yourself?

Thanks all.

They can be found in the booklet of the (remastered?) album. I figured they'd to very nicely as introduction. I was already wondering when someone would ask.

As a prog rocker, I remember in late 70's when I first heard the stunning and scary riffs of Black Sabbath. It was so unusual. So brutal. A new genre was born. The advent of the pioneers of heavy metal came to shake the fondamental base of my progressive rock music universe. Happy Birthday Heavy Metal. I love you.

'old sabbath still sounds heavy today, so just imagine hearing this shit when it was released'

(I've just read this on another page)

Excellent review Nag. Excellent.

Stop making me jealous about not being born some decades earlier! Oh, I truly wish I could have seen the Big British Three in their prime. I just wish.

Glad you caught up, mate.

Thanks a bunch for the further approval.

^ forgive my ignorance but what bands are the British Three? My guess is Sabbath, Floyd, and Zep?

Either or, keep up the great work!

If its referring to metal my guess is it would be Sabbath, Zep, and Deep Purple.

As far as I can recall it's not an official or even unoffical title for them, but Purple, Zeppelin and Sabbath are generally considered to be the seminal 70's heavy rock bands.

Yeah, revisited this a while ago and still love it. I learnt every song on guitar back in the day.

Nice review.
