That is not your reader's fault. Listen to more music.

having "knowledge outside the hip hop spectrum" isn't really necessary if you're only reviewing hip hop
|
| |
It is necessary if you want to connect with the majority of readers who frequent this website. Also, other genres will expand your idea of what music is actually capable of, thus expanding the ideas you put on paper. A writer with linear influence(s) will fall victim to repetition, which you most certainly have.

If it's not for you oh well. listen to what you like.
I don't see how listening to other music helps you review hip hop anyway and you're probably young so as you get older you might start to listen to other stuff but you'll still listen to hip hop

"It is necessary if you want to connect with the majority of readers who frequent this website"....who listen to hip hop.
Now you're statement is worthless.

I'm not saying he has to do that to write here. But he will not be very welcome if he doesn't. He hasn't had any problems with the hip-hop heads on Sputnik.

"But he will not be very welcome if he doesn't. He hasn't had any problems with the hip-hop heads on Sputnik."
You just contradicted yourself.

Deviant1769, you've been a finicky companion in my welcoming of the new year.

"in my welcoming of the new year."
Yeah well, you're doing it wrong.

As a writer, whether you want to or not you will either be connecting with readers or alienating them. You obviously don't care much about conforming to your wide audience's tastes, but you aren't writing well enough to ignore their criticism and tell them their standards are too high. I'm not gonna tell you that you need a degree in English to write for Sputnik, but this site has/had enough amateurs and since you're a regular reviewer I think it's a minor responsibility of yours to set a good example. Honestly, I don't think you're very good (just to clarify I haven't negged any of your works), but I don't think you can't get better either. You explicitly review one genre but compared to kingsoby for example, its obvious that your understanding of this one genre isn't nearly as complete as it should be as a reviewer. You say the best way to learn is repetition but not if you're repeating the same mistakes over and over. I think your best bet is to read more (there are hundreds of hip-hop reviewers who publish their work all over the internet) and learn to appreciate the draft, which is arguably the most important part of writing. Almost all of your reviews seem rushed, as if you wrote one copy, skimmed it to fix obvious outstanding mistakes and submitted it. Read over your work several times, that will help you add more detail (another aspect lacking in your writing) and write better first drafts in the future, shortening your editing process.

This is a public site, you have to proof yourself if you can't get other people to do it for you. If you don't know much about proofing, you should learn. I'll proof your next review if you want.

"He hasn't had any problems with the hip-hop heads on Sputnik"
That's probably because the "hip hop heads on sputnik" like hydeyomoney and myself aren't very experienced reviewers either, don't think sobi has commented on one of bulldog's reviews

Didn't see my review then did ya styles? ahh I've been celebrating christmas + friend's birthday + new year so no sputnik time, so you'll have to excuse me for not reading it. I'm probably not going to do so now either hahahaha, just came for a quick observation about whut's going on. I'll get to it in the next week when I'm back at home etc (clearly atm I am not)I think TheEnforcer is either 1) An advanced troll, or 2) Has extremely high standards. TheEnforcer's criticism was very well presented and in all honesty, the troll labeling that has been going on lately is stupid to say the least. He made valid points and definitely did nothing at all that could be considered troll-worthy. Also, high standards, like erasedcitizen already said, are not a bad thing at all.
Also, eracedcitizen was right once again, when he said that your reviews are awful formulaic. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but like I said before, it's better to pick and learn rather than to rush out a new review everyday. If every review you make is exactly like your previous one, exhibiting no progression or experimenting/new angles, then people will soon get tired of them and simply will not read 'em. You're one of the most frequent reviewers here, and simply saying "oh this is just my style, it's not for everyone" isn't going to work. I saw you post a contributor application like a month or two ago. I'm sorry, but in order to become a contributor, you really need to try harder than that. If you continue to crack out new, slightly above the average reviews every day, while showing no progression or will to learn, then that just won't work around here and you can expect to get continuously neg'd. Take heed on the criticism given, work harder on your reviews and it will pay off big in the end.

Thought'd I'd jump in but you nailed it.
