I both love and hate Eddie Vedder at the same time. I worshiped PJ in the early 90's then was put off by his metamorphasis from kick ass rock star to "tortured artist" who takes himself too seriously. havent heard this, might have to check it out.

I don't know about all that, I know a lot of people are put off by his expression of political views, but I've always found him to be rather modest and for the fans. I mean the whole thing in the early 90's when they cancelled their tour because ticketmaster wouldn't lower their ticket prices says a lot. I guess I can see why people think he's full of shit, but I'll never see it that way.

He's got, well, had one of the best voices in rock music. And he helped create Ten, that earns automatic forgiveness for anything he might have done afterwards.

review = album > movie > book. But it's all good. Movie is amazing; book is even better. Absolutely
inspiring. And Vedder did a good job capturing the feel.
|
| |
Thanks Lions. And Nag I agree with you on top of everything I said before.

Ten is one of the greatest albums ever, and I loved Vs. I thought half of Vitalogy was great. I really hated No Code when it came out, Yield was a nice return to form. I really, really despised Binaural and Riot Act though. I guess I loved Ten so much that I couldnt stand the change in formula and have held a quasi grudge against Vedder for it. That said, the dude has a great voice when he lets it belt.

| |
Have you guys seen Vedder's Grammy acceptance speech? It's one of the coolest things ever
|
| |
I don'ttt know, personally I can't listen to this
I kind of like Vedder, but I can't listen to him without Pearl Jam
It's true Kaki King is great in here but still
Nice review though mangg

actually romgsom no, and I'm youtubing it right now. BigHans I think its the lose-lose situation bands are put into. If you change, people hate how different an album is from the older stuff and on the other hand if you don't change, people will say, "Oh they've been making the same album for 20 years."
|
| |
what songs have kaki king on them? I knew she was on this but I didn't know where.

^was just going to say that. PJ luckily tried different things. Fail at some point is inevitable, but I don't really dislike any of their albums. Now that I've gone through Backspacer more and more though, it is actually pretty generic. Vedder saves the day.
edit: @Mike

I dunno Backspacer might have been generic, but it's definitely not bland. Very solid 3.5 for me.

From me too, but maybe I'll lower it to a 3 because there's not really so much going on that hasn't been done before.
|

Thank you puddles.
romgsom: that speech was awesome, and I think it says everything about him because he is the same now.
Lions: I think "Hard Sun" is one of the tracks with her on it.
And in terms of Backspacer maybe it was a bit generic, but I don't think they were going for something out of the box in any way. It's a 4 for me just because his vocal performance is absolutely mid-blowing.

Well, Vedder may still have teh voice, but I've seen the rest of the band much, much better.

You have a point about the Catch 22. I guess I just held Ten so dear that it was a much bigger deal when they changed. I have bought that album 5 times, and will buy it no matter how many times it gets lost or stolen. There was a time in the early 90's where I listened to it in its entirety at least once a day for a year.

Whoa, that's overplaying. How can you enjoy it after playing it so much? Even the greatest of music becomes a bore when overplayed.
|
| |
haha that is a lot. Along with Ten though I got into the band listening to their live bootlegs that you can buy in stores. I loved and still love the energy that they bring even though most of them are in their 40's now.

Nag, about 99% of the time that is correct. Its one of my top 5 favorite albums however and I never get sick of those.

It's actually my favourite album, but I would never be able to play it like that.
