i like the review pretty much, though i do agree with a previous comment that stated this as a rantview and not a review, i don't think you really can get a feel of how this album sounds when reading this, its just you stating your opinion about the band and trying to justify your rating with the wrong point (by wrong i mean they don't relate to the music itself), and btw i agree totaly with you, compleatly overrated album, influential yes but not that good either way

ugh i'd rather listen to breathe carolina than this shit.

okay, i tried to read it, but stopped at the ignorant Green Day dis, and later, the misinformed remark about Sid.

first off, Green Day were EIGHTEEN when they started (in 1989, if you didn't know - bet you're one of those people who think American Idiot is the band's debut) and they actually tried to emulate confessed idols like the Ramones, The Clash and The Who. that's right, two names straight out of the '77 set and another one which influenced that whole first wave. posers, right? yeah.

secondly, Sid. his recruitment was ON PURPOSE. the group wanted to shock, so they recruited a guy who couldn't play. it had nothing to do with his "fashion sense", rather the fact that he had a cool bass (P-Bass '78 FTW bitch"!) was a drunken drug-addled schizophrenic, and was absolutely insane. Therefore, he was the best possible addition to their roster, especially since he was the anthitesis of their former, clean-cut, jazz-studying, rich-kid bass player Glen Matlock (who left the group for exactly these reasons and later founded the Rich White Kids).

so yeah, the review could have been good and offered a fresh perspective if you hadn't started shooting your mouth off. i won't neg, since it has some valid points. but I really, really, REALLY want to. and not because of the rating, either.

Wow, I thought I was gonna get flammed! Thanks for seeing where I was coming from guys. Yeah, I mean, it's not bad...I just don't think it's great and the whole cheesey attitude that oozes from this album just ruins it for me. I won't deny it's influence, hell, tons of great bands spawned from the influential Sex Pistols concerts (Joy Divison, Television, The Clash), I just really can't stand them, Sid Vicious especially. At least Johnny Rotten basically admitted that the band was nothing but a pop image when he started up PiL.



AtavanHalen - Yeah, hah, I really couldn't think of much to say about the music. It's not as punk as people think it is, rather poppy at times, rather stupid and annoying at times, etc. So I decided to just explain my rating rather then the music.

ReturnToRock - Yeah, I can see why you're irritated. I at least expected the Greenday referance would piss some people off. I realize they were influenced by plenty of good bands, but it's just that attitude, that punk rock is more of an image, that really stems from here methinks. Like, look at the Dead Kennedys (I only use them, because they're my favorite punk band), those guys looked nothing like punks, but they were fucking heavier than anything else played at the time. I do disagree about Sid though; you mentioned his attitude being a reason he was hired, and I believe that's part of his image. The clothes and hair came second. The guy was just a dick though, I remember even Johnny Rotten saying that there was an incident where he robbed a goddamn taxi cab driver, and that pissed Rotten off. Sid was being a dick to the working class people that Rotten was trying to speak out for.



STOP SHOUTING! - I agree, but where the Sex Pistols seemed to rely purely on their attitude and whatnot, I think Public Enemy actually made great music. Nice flow, and they used a lot of abrasive "noise" in their music. Definately, PE was the punkiest rap group ever.



Jips - Well, It's a classic because it's recognized as such by the majority of music listeners. I won't deny that if you want a cohesive collection of everything that makes rock music, this is necessary, and I think everyone should at least give it a listen, then move on to better punk bands.

OK, nice of you to admit you were WRONG!!!!

Seriously, though, some people still think there's no life before Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Those people should be forced to an Alex DeLarge treatment where they would see and hear nothing but Dookie on repeat. That should cure them.

As for Sid, he inspired me to pick up the bass. "If he can do it, I can do it", was just about my line of thought And I think he wasn't an asshole, just misguided and immature (heck, he was 19 then, what did you expect?)
