Its like a combo of all of them. Best comparison I could think of from the 90's era, but you're right, they rule and have a sound of their own.

The debut definitely wasn't entirely metal, but it had its moments. A lot of the riffs were too different to really be considered metal or alternative, I thought. It was definitely a little ahead of its time.

The album after this was hit or miss. Some excellent songs and some that were too influenced by the modern metal scene (as shown by the guest appearance of the dude from Staind).
