Great review... brought a slight tear to my eye as I listened to the tracks. This was my first "emo" album. I didn't know about any other bands from the "second wave" scene.
I grew up with the Offspring and Pennywise, so "Something to Write Home About" was like nothing I had ever heard. As a drummer, I was captivated as the complex unconventional beats that were clearly tailored to compliment each song. All too often drummers just blast away in a very predictable pattern, so I really appreciate this.
Thats what I love about this album, it is very artful. Especially compared to "Four Minute Mile", which itself is brilliant. This shows a slightly more mature outlook on life, although still audibly adolescent. "Guilt Show" really tops it off in terms of growth as a band.
The Get up Kids is my favorite band next to Pinback (and anything Rob Crow does). Never got to see them live... I heard tell of reunion?
Hits close to home peace

"Is this sort of like Built to Spill? 'Cause I've been digging that band."
No, but you'll still like this album.
