Personally I don't feel like the Bravery has ever been that big. While I am a fan of the band I don't think I've ever seen anything about them anywhere, not even exaggerating. Only reason I even found out they existed a few years ago was because of delirious late night TV watching.
And, while I agree that the sound of this album was disappointing (I liked their last album much better because maybe I'm not looking very hard, but it didn't sound like almost any music I had heard before). . . I don't quite think it deserves a 2, as that seems harsh to me. Ironically She's So Bendable was one of my least favorite songs on the album, even though it was different, it just didn't fit my taste in music.
I also agree that some of the lyrics can be pretty trite at times, mostly in the first album and a few songs in Stir the Blood; Sun and the Moon actually explored more than the few topics you mentioned and had lyrics that I bothered to pay real attention to (Although the fact that they were more clear and enunciated may have helped).
Overall. . . From the perspective of a long time listener of the band, I agree that the album was a disappointment but not that it was "a used condom". What kind of metaphor are you saving for a 1, dare I ask?
P.S. You've never given anything a 5 out of 73 reviews. While I can respect the impression of impartiality that gives, I am also surprised that you don't utilize the whole scale. Are you waiting for something that makes you shit your pants in delight for a 5?

You misunderstand how I review/rate I think - I have reviewed one 5 (Cut Copy - IN Ghost Colours), and I have rated a bunch more 5's - however, I haven't reviewed any because I tend to review only new albums, and as a matter of preference I never rate anything I've just listened to a 5. As a 5 denotes classic, I usually go back to an album that might be close to that after a year or so, re-listen to it, and if it's still as good as I remember, I up it to a 5. The Cut Copy review was from an old CD so that's why I wrote it. in the future, i'll probably write up a few more of my 5's.
btw, agree with you about the sun and the moon being better (ever-so-slightly). and "a honest mistake" was big on the radio in my town so that's how i heard about them, and through mtv

Album gets worse and worse as it goes on. I enjoyed the first 3 tracks, everything else is average.
I was leaning at a 2.5, but the song "Adored" is just so badass.
