"The Clash are the Green Day of the late 70's & 80's"
Perhaps that's why I love the clash?
This album is incredible and I agree with everything you have to say. This album will not hit you over night, but over time you realise if any album deserves a 5 star rating, then this it it.
keep it up, what album was next? Sandinista?

Underwhelming album that does not live up to the hype. FAR from the best punk album of all time

Obviously. Don't know when I get to reviewing that though. I'm not all that familiar with The Clash' later stuff. Yet.

I know exactly what he meant. The fact is though they both rule so he should shut up.

I would have to disagree. I dislike Green Day (well ok, they made a few nice songs, but apart from that), but The Clash on the other hand is far more quality work.

except the clash didnt turn al fucked up and gay like billy gay armstrong, even though i loved 4 green day albums (the first 4 insomniac, dookie, kerplunk and nimrod, but after that...failure from the lord above

^Maybe i'm not reading it properly but didn't you just contradict yourself?

I can see a lot of similarity between the two band though. Both started our raw and simple (Dookie, The Clash), both then release their magnum opus which included a mix of sounds taking their sound to new areas and ultimately ending up with mainstream appeal (American Idiot, London Calling) and both then got too confident and release good but somewhat bloated releases (21st Century Breakdown, Sandinista!)
Either that or I know way too much about each band...

The Clash were a huge influence on Green Day so it makes sense
one sub par band ripping off another

Very good review.

I agree with Roach. Not a good album. Three or four good tunes spun over two parts. No thank you.

There's not a weak track on the album. I used to think Lover's Rock was when I first bought it but that's it. And the whole green day comparison is just dumb. American Idiot their London Calling? lol right

"American Idiot their London Calling? lol right"
Well it's arguably the bands most mainstream momment, as is London Calling. lol who cares really, I wrote that this morning when I was half awake. at the end of the day, this album rules.

If you call London Calling The Clash going mainstream, you don't know what you're talking about. Just because they mixed in some pop here and there doesn't mean anything. Actually, considering the period, this is even less mainstream than their previous two in a sense; punk was all the rage, and this was less punk.
And same here Tom. I found Lover's Rock the weakesr link at first as well.
