In finally free, you cant really hear it on the live version, but there is actually dubs over of a tv broadcast about how the murders happened.

i really want to tell the story.

i tried finiding a link for you, but my nets not working. However, if anyone of you dont know the story and want to, go to www.lyrics.com and search for dream theater (theatER not theatRE) and just go from there. if you cant find Metropollis Pt.2 Scenes From A Memory, try looking for Live: Scenes from New York.

Album Rating: 5.0

The news report is not about how the murders happened, they are from when JFK was shot and are there to show that we are now back in the present day as oppose to 1928.

It's from when the Kennedy plane went down, I believe.

This is an awesome CD from probably the most gifted band on the planet. Though I have to disagree with you on the solos. The solos are one of the reasons I listen to DT! (thought I am a guitarist :p ) Asides from that, I think Home is the best track on the CD, along with Finally Free.

Top review by the way :thumb:

^^^ Most gifted?? I dunno, certainly top musicians, but I wouldn't call them the best songwriters ever.

Great Review, I usually like yours Kaden

That's the one fault I often find with DT. Their music is often times unfocused and masturbatory.

That being said, this album is very focused and has some great stuff in it. 5/5.

Great Review, you nailed it down.
It's a great concept album, my favorite of DT's and yes the soloing does go a bit overboard in a few parts but the overall music makes up for that very quickly. Great stuff 5/5

there are three songs on this album wich are just great
finally free
home
fatal tragedy

home is my favourite, a 12 minute song wich actually is a song. The solo is also great....it doesnt drag along because the melody is great.
the rest of the songs aren't cool. They are just difficult pieces of music without much of melody in it. And melody is the most important thing in music i think...
great band, but they make crap and sometimes there is a good song between it....
'there are bands who makes only good music...but DT is not one of them IMO

I've always thought of it as the opposite. I find DT to be alot more melodic than they are rhythmy (if that's a word).

^I think 'Rhythmic ' is the word you're looking for ;)

Anyway, this is probably my favourite album. The first time I heard it was amazing, I hadn't heard any of the songs on this album and the way it all fit together really struck me unlike any album since Master Of Puppets.

'Rhythm-based' is actually what I was searching for.

People often say that Dream Theater are just technical showoffs. I think that they do a lot of that, but they do have emotion in their music. I find this album to have a lot of emtion, especially the last song.

My thoughts exactly.

I have never seen the problem with them being technical show-offs. I was wearing my SFAM shirt the other day and a kid goes, "Dream Theater? All they do is solo and show off their skill." And I said "So?" I don't see showing off as a negative thing, as long as the music is still good, and to me it is.

Awesome album, easily a 5/5. Frail said that petrucci's solos were very technical but without feeling. I personally don't agree with him, some of his solos are very fast and do have feelings, IMO.
