This is a good album!
I personally prefer VoB and infinity land, but as rino82 pointed out, the style is very similar to songs from all their albums. Justboy for example is probably the most pop-rock song they've ever made. it's from their first album.
There's no such thing as a wrong opinion, but your opinion is just bad.
it was nicely written though. i enjoyed being angry while reading it, so i thank you for that.

Although you're correct that most fans arent annoyed by their success, they are annoyed however by how much they have lost their roots, abandoning their old sound that made them big in the first place. They'v abandoned their post-hardcore ish roots. Iv been a fan for years as well, but dont u find their change a massive let down?
Review was correct, if a little harsh.

I have to say, although I think the review is well written, I largely disagree.
I don't think Biff have gone "mainstream" just to please the masses. This seems to be a problem when a band gets popular. I've listened to this through 3 times now and I have to say I'm really enjoying it. Some excellent tracks. Heavy, layered guitars in places but still brimming with melody. Who ever said melodic music was bad?
You cannot expect a band to keep churning out the same album five times over just to "keep it real" for those "hardcore" fans from the early days who now claim they've "sold out".
Some people are so fickle at times it's untrue.

I am wounded by this album - Puzzle was a clever move on biffys part is propelled them into the limelight because it was more accesible than previous albums. Why oh why then, didnt they then do something a bit different instead of simply cashing in on their new found success! I know not every band is radiohead but this is just boring, pedestrian and discardable.

yetanotherprofile:
A lot of fans may be slightly disappointed in the change of sounds but most aren't massively so...plus their 'old sound' didn't make them big at all, their 'Puzzle' sound did. The only major issue I have with the 'new sound' is the production. Biffy were never gonna be one of those bands who just made the same album over and over again and personally I'm glad of that even if I personally don't think they'll ever top VOB.

Hmmmm... Opinion belongs to the individual. There is no right and wrong.
Although to brand all 'mainstream' music terrible is just not on.
The Smiths, Echo & The Bunnymen, R.E.M, Suede, Blur, Iron Maiden and Metalica all went mainstream. And none of those bands can be considered anything other than classic.

you guys all need to get of your high horse, he never branded all mainstream music bad he just said the direction biffy went in to crack the mainstream ruined them for him. i never really liked them so im not bothered either way but it was a well written review.

I've still to give it a proper listen. I will admit i do miss old biffy, but this is allright from what i've heard.

there are a lot of great songs here (that golden, many of horror, cloud of stink, bubbles, shock shock...). Too harsh review...
