this pretty much sums up what ive felt this album has shown me so far. their new album, after a couple of listens, seems underwhelming and alot less fluid and transparent compared to 'colors' and 'alaska'. while it does impress me with its overall sounds and musical technicalities, something just doesnt feel right.

i wont rate this yet, as i felt exactly the same about 'the silent circus', however this wont be higher than 3/5 at this stage. hopefully this changes.

Good review. I do disagree but I can see how some might not dig this record.

one of the good negative reviews. i enjoyed your points of view. i like reading the good negativity and not the meaningless garble of others that just bash it. you gave good reasons.

Why, thank you. Apparently that still doesn't stop people from negging it, though. What criminals!

This release actually inspired me to go back and to listen to Colors again, and I found it slightly more enjoyable. Maybe the same can be said for this record three years from now...

I think its a solid review and i would have to agree that its easy to get lost in the progressive moments of the album. I would personally like to see a more focused release from BTBAM with shorter song structures.

But, then again, the progressive moments are really what sets BTBAM apart from other bands. I think its always refreshing to see the other side of the argument, so good review.

Why the hell did this get negged so much?

People need to stop getting so upset when someone reviews something that already has several reviews. How does that hurt anything? If you don't want to read another review of it, then DON'T!

Out of my two dozen reviews so far, this is the only one that has been negged.

I guess I should think twice before tangling with BTBAM nerds again...

Mirror is decent, but in the end this record is nothing but an average metalcore record with some progressive influence to make the listener think he is intellectual for listening to this.

Dude, I gave this a 5 and I think that your review is good. You outlined clear reasons why you dont like it and I respect that. But if you call this overly complex and muddled, I wonder what you think about Meshuggah. :D

I'll shamefacedly admit that I might be a huge BTBAM fan bordering on fanboyism, but I still found this review to be well done even though I disagree with the rating. You gave your reasoning as to why you disliked it, and that sits fine with me. It's certainly a ton better than ThePalaceOfWisdom's review.

this is not musically complex, its a bunch of potentially good ideas thrown together to make an album with plenty of boring ideas in between.

it's impressive to those who aren't familiar with the genre

hm...I get where the reviewer is going with it being random snippits of music, but...that's how they've always written, even in the metalcore days. In fact...the songs actually feel more like songs here than they ever did, not only do they flow into the "parts" concisely, but they actually relate to the other "parts" as well. Colors also was like this, but the great misdirect probably does it a little bit better. I'd still listen to Colors over TGM (or any other BTBAM album for that matter), but this one is definitely more about being songs than cool parts in the music than they've EVER done.

But great review, your opinions are actually valid for not liking the record, you don't just hate to hate because others might like.

So nice to see that I'm not the only one who couldn't get into this record.
