and the worst part is that they STEAL RIFFS FROM CLASSIC ROCK BANDS! do you not understand that? YES, it matters when bands are uncreative and unoriginal. there's a huge difference between just taking inspiration from bands and ripping them off completely, and Jet has done the latter to death.
As opposed to the Classic Rock bands themselves, who have never "borrowed" from anybody, especially early blues musicians? Come on, you know just as well as I do that rock has a time-honored tradition of ripping off of other artists. Jet is neither the first, nor the worst.
| | | Nor the last. I don't like Jet because they're musically unappealing.
| | | I'm not going to lie. I enjoyed the hype. For one glorious moment, it seemed that cheesy, mass-produced classic rock was here to stay again. You know what? Hell, ˇViva Le Jet!

If you're asking me to defend Jimmy Page, then I won't do it because I hate what he did as well. Creativity and originality are the most important things in music for me. Jet isn't the first, you're right, but they ARE the latest. Since this review is about Jet, it only makes sense to discuss what THEy did. And just because others have done it doesn't make it right.

I'm certainly not singling out Mr. Page for his kleptomania. The point I’m trying to argue is that “originality” is kind of an arbitrary adjective for music- that is, practically every artist lifts riffs, licks, chords, and ideas form other artists- especially in Rock and Roll. Jimmy took from Muddy, Muddy took from Son House, House from Gospel, and gospel came from slave work-songs. And Jet stole from Jimmy. Is Jet really any worse off- from an originality standpoint, that anybody else?
| | | Originality is such a rare thing to stumble across anyway, because the second something gets big, it's suddenly marketed non-stop until the entire genre or new sound is so watered-down and over-hyped it becomes stale. New bands copy styles, old ones change to maintain relevance... Jet shouldn't be judged on ripping off of people, but more on how well they pull it off.

I don't care how many stolen riffs this album has. It's in the great tradition of rock n roll to be a riff stealing bastard. From Zep to the Stones to Elvis, stolen riffs abound. It's part of what makes the rock world go round.
So far as THEY STEAL RIFFS FROM CLASSIC ROCK BANDS. Well
"classic rocK" bands are no strangers to stolen riffs themselves. Just ask Muddy Waters, Hank Williams, and Chuck Berry :-/

Yes a couple of people have already said this and I already offered my rebuttal. I don't care! Just because Jet stole from people who also borrowed ideas themselves (and aren't poor bluesmen destined to go uncredited for eternity) doesn't make it any more right! They still suck for being unoriginal, but there's no point in mentioning EVERYONE who is unoriginal because this is a review about Jet.
-It's not as hard to find unique music as you seem to think. Not even in the mainstream!
-There is a difference between taking inspiration and stealing, and Jet have clearly done the latter.
I hate to keep repeating myself but you guys are only repeating the arguments yourselves. So just save it!
| | | why is it better to listen to original music?
| | | Your right YDload. Clearly only your opinion matters.

I don't quite follow you. What is the difference between taking inspiration and stealing? You say there is a clear, observable line between the two?
So, using this logic, The Doors must suck because "Hello, I Love You" is a direct take of The Kink's "All the Day and All of the Night". Correct? Or is it only stealing if it's by a band you don't like?
We're both arguing arbitrary positions here, really. Let's both just head on down to the local pub and put on some Jet, eh?

Look, ANY time someone has blatantly stolen music from another person and receives all the credit for it (financially or legally), I dislike that.
I think I can explain my position better in a muse. I won't derail this review any longer.
| | | I agree with that. I'm just saying a band doesn't suck musically for it, though it is a dick thing to do.

What riffs did they steal? I don't hear them using the riff from Heartbreaker or anything in there songs. I think what you mean is that there riffs reflect there influences. Which can be seen in every band. If you can name me a riff they stole, and I listen to the song and the song they stole and it sounds exactly the same then maybe you have a point.

i love this cd all of the songs are great execpt lazy gun
| | | Speaking of stealing has anyone noted that 'Look What You've Done' is a complete copy of 'Sexy Sadie' by The Beatles? Both piano based rock ballads and the lyrical content has been stolen.
Jet 'Look What You've Done' - "Oh, look what you've done you've made a fool of everyone."
Beatles 'Sexy Sadie' - "Sexy Sadie, what have you done? You've made a fool of everyone"
Thiefs.
| | | ^^ true. also if you listen to the main riff of Iggy Pop's 'Lust Fot Life', it's ALOT like the main riff of 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl'.
