This is a great album and a great review. Also a fan of the 'stache.
However, I felt that lumping R.E.M. in with Eric Clapton was unnecessary. "Accelerate" was hardly a snoozefest, and seeing them live is fucking intense. Apart from that, very good review.

Well, fair call. I was just reaching for a band a lot of people claim have become incredibly boring in their mature years, from what I have heard spoken of later R.E.M. and Clapton at least it would seem they have lost some crucial spark that defined their earlier work.

solidly great cave album, the ballads are especially good on this, even if there is a few too many of them. not quite as good as tender prey or let love in, but excellent nonetheless

Great review. This is such a strong album and probably, well let's just say definitely oveshadowed. It may be a little off the pedal but it is much more consistent and as you mentioned the songwriting and lyricism is simply stunning. 'Lesbian counter attacks'? 'Mechanic, Priest?'
Just stunning stuff.
