This is one of the most polarizing albums ever. Half of it is brilliant and the other half is shitty...

The songwriting here does have a maturer edge than on FNM's debut, but I think the vocal delivery is actually much worse as a result. I don't know how, but at least on the debut album the vocals were somewhat effective, even if they didn't quite match up to the instrumental performance. Here they just sound...lazy for the most part, for want of a better description. As for the songs, it's mostly a decent affair, but there are a few fillers which, if expanded upon and pumped up a little with more musical gusto, could have been more effective to the listener. Nonetheless, the title track, "Chinese Arithmetic" and the lengthier "The Crab Song" all make up for the album's flaws and retain a little of the interest.

Eh the beginning of "The Crab Song" made me cringe.
The t/t, "Chinese Arithmetic", "Anne's Song?", "R n' R", and "We Care a Lot" keep are actually really good, even if Mosely's voice kind of sucks.

Mosley's voice only gets worse with time honestly. At least Anne's Song is really funny despite this.

I swear how this album is received proves rock fans are still obsessed with front-man worship. Bottum was nothing special but his vocals are certainly not bad. (In comparison to Patton he is inferior)

I prefer this to the majority of Patton era albums tbh. Only Angel Dust and possibly TRT edge this out.

ngl had no idea We Care a Lot was a real song and not just the dirty jobs theme for a long time
