"because the front man is also cited as a guitarist, but there is no definitive part with 3 guitars."
Go listen to the Create solo and tell me there's not 3 distinct guitar parts bro. 2 guitars doing dueling leads and one guitar doing backing chords. This is intricate stuff, I feel it's insulting to say that.
PS I know I've posted a lot on this review, I'm just a Tides of Man fanboy.

After starting with Dreamhouse I found this a but difficult to get into, but after taking the time to really listen to this lately, I've come to appreciate it. The instrumentation is top-notch, and even though Tilian's voice here isn't as developed as it is now, he really still creates some catchy stuff.

The instrumental at the end of Create Couldn’t Keep Up is so tight.

i feel like he sang so much more within his range with tides of man

Is this like, actually post-rock? I can't imagine Tillian in a post-rock band.
|
| |
This album is pretty good. Not at all post-rock tho - their later discog is much more post-rock and I feel more lukewarm about those albums for that reason

I might like their later stuff more then. I found this to be pretty unremarkable.

you had to have heard it when it came out

Meh, I just feel like without Tilian their music doesn't intrigue me as much as I wish it did. The instrumental albums make for decent enough reading/background music though

This band without Tilian is boring
|
| |
It really is. Some of his vocals on here are just wonderful - Create Couldn't Keep Up and the opening track in particular
Like just such great balance between his gritty distortion and his bright cleans
|
| |
I really dug their most recent album. Far more impactful than their first attempt (which still had a few gems).
But yeah, they're never gonna top the Tilian era
|
| |
I don't come back to this much minus Create Couldn't Keep Up, Knowing You Have Arrived, and Not My Love but holy fuck this is a massive album

Yea this album owns, I like Dreamhouse more but this is still so good
|
| |
It's less gritty but it's definitely my favorite as well.
|
