I don't completely hate all slam, mind you. Mortal Torment is a little known slam band from Greece that I listen to from time to time; it's a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. They released a song called "Decomposition in Vomit" which is catchy as fuck, and represents the genres strength somewhat. Perhaps the most interesting thing about them is that they're fronted by a rather attractive female.

Don't blame suffocation. little did they know in 1991 that the breakdown in liege of inveracity would start spawning heaps upon heaps of wiggers starting slam metal bands.

This album is not bad if you listen to it for what it is, which is brutal slam. I enjoy them thoroughly.

Don't even bother going to teufelstomb.com if you hate this shit. I was just reading a review that praises this up the wazoo, what a load of shit. Christ, the only similar sounding album I can get slightly into is Suffocation's Effigy of the Forgotten, and even that tends to bore me very soon. Still, I love Suffocation's latter work.

Devourment is fucking insane! I love this band. Unleash the Carnivore is their best album yet, great production, brutal slams, insane drums, and Mike Majewskis brutal inhaled gutturals. 5/5

I think you have to get the concept of Brutal/slam death genre to like devourment. I mean they were one of the bands that helped develop the genre. Its not about technicality like most death metal bands. Its just about creating really heavy and 'slamming' music, with groove riffs and plenty of breakdowns while still maintaining the death metal elements. And I reckon devourment still have their originality in doing this. If you dont get the concept you wont enjoy it and think its bullshit. But I love slam.

The only thing ive always hated about devourment is the production of their albums and maybe the setup of their sound especially the guitars. Its hard to hear the riffs so sometimes its hard distinguish it and it just sound totally random chugging, until they have a slower paced bit in their song.

you have to use your imagination for the riffs when the drums are blasting
