The band even admit that this album and the next were referred to as "Contractual Obligation 1" and "Contractual Obligation 2"

This is a solid album. Half good, half Bad Religion by numbers.

interesting album. It was was before New America. I somehow never tracked this to my phone. But 13 Strange Denial.

Still haven't listened to this one. Should I give it a try?
|

Yea it it is very good I think if you just want Bad Religion releasing an album like Stranger than Fiction or the Grsy Race. In So Many Ways!

Eh I didn't like my original post. I like Gurewitz, but I don't think just because he wasn't on a couple albums is why some of these albums kinda are aimless with some gems there.
Gurewitz seemed to prefer running the label than playing in the band, despite the friction I guess Greg and Brett worked out over time.

We are not the SAME PERSON! This album has so many good tracks. Not sure why it was received so poorly. This is why we got the New America which I like in spots too haha.

Finally listened to this! Was better than I feared, but worse than I hoped

There are bad songs on here, like "Raise Your Voice" that song is awful. There are three or four other clunkers (Mediocre Minds, Hippy Killers). I haven't sat and listened to the whole album in a super long time. I can't even remember how some of these songs go. So as an entire album it is one of their weaker ones. It still has some excellent songs that when I replayed those I still liked them a lot. "Shades of Truth" isn't particularly great I was just pretty drunk (so I may have over sold the album as a whole) and feel like the title alone is how society is and yeah I am overthinking this, but other songs like "Same Person" and "Strange Denial" are awesome. I would say it's a 2.5 at its worst with some real hidden gems.

The Biggest Killer In American History is one I really like
|

"Ka-ka-killer, ka-ka-killer" Hehehe. It's a catchy song. I wouldn't consider it a clunker anyway. Let me just pick one at random, I don't remember...'Victims of the Revolution' away! Ha right when it started I did remember there being a "hey!" at the beginning and there it was. That's strange considering I didn't remember how it went at all until it started. I haven't heard this iin probably over ten years. It's nothing special. A mid tempo by the numbers BR song. Still it's not awful either.
'All Fantastic Images' and the Title track are other great ones.
