You gotta get Antichrist and Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone. Both are even better than this.

'Choronzon' is sandwiched between Akercocke's first two albums and last two albums, and sees them at the beginning of their experimental side, whilst still keeping that raw energy they used on the first two albums. It could have done without 'Prince of the north', but otherwise this is a pretty solid record.

To say that I didn't even know what 'Choronzon' meant even after listening to this album is interesting enough-That is, until i watched a certain episode from the Hammer Horror series and fully realized the introductory spoken word narrative of 'Praise the name of satan' was taken from the same dialogue of the aforementioned episode. That conceptual discovery aside, the music is very mysterious and not at all disappointing. In what I call the 'Album Power Trio' of Akercocke, 'Choronzon' is the first real instance of when the band embraced their progressive meanderings fully and decided that the rawness of their two predecessing albums was not enough to display their satanic beliefs musically. There are synthesiser-led tracks (Son of the Morning), Epic yet melancholic gems (Valley of the crucified) and forays into the disturbingly melodious (Leviathan). That said, some riffs may well sound the same, and some structures may well seem similar to one another, but these minor flaws are more than made up for with the use of technical progression and Akercocke's penchant for more than just sheer brave experimentation.

I like how this review is cute and thoughtful, considering it's about dark, satanic music.
There's probably a lesson here.

leviathan's intro has one of the best riffs I've ever heard

good stuff

seriously the intro riff of leviathan is so crushing, I can't really even describe it but it's one of the coolest things I've ever heard

Damn, what an album. In vain with Ved Buens, Panthymonium and i dare to say motW.. Twitsed and insane, this dark opus is surely an adictive listening.

Kinda strange people like Egarran and balls do not comment on such album. You guys are missing some weird and original balck metal right there...
Edit Egarran actually did comment, my apologies ^^

There is really some dark magic in those albums, this is one of the bands, that induces you in to trance like states. The flow here is really something to witness.

Monstrous in scope and ambition and almost entirely successful, the ‘cocke knocked it out of the park with this one.
