Billy Talent is not the first band to tone down their sound for mainstream accessibility & they won't be the last. In lowering their energy levels however, they have definitely lost some of that wow factor that made them so great. Thankfully, the guitars still satisfy & the anthemic sing-alongs still exist (especially on tracks 6-9). The two-edged sword of 'III' is that in providing consistency, they exhibit insufficient variation. Still, consistency is not to be under-valued & this is still an enjoyable release, albeit a step down for Billy Talent. Recommended Tracks: Turn Your Back, Diamond on a Landmine, Devil on My Shoulder & Saint Veronika.

Ok, I'm just going to throw something out there... & no-one will probably believe me:

I just had a listen to the CD (ie: an original physical copy of the album) & it seemed to have more punch than the, ummm, previous thingamajig I had listened to. Since there is a clear step down in energey with this album compared to the last 2, I think this should be kept in mind. I definitely felt the album was better listening to the original physical copy!

My analysis of this album:

Some how it keeps basic Billy Talent sound (good) while being mostly uninteresting with little re listen value. Some of the punk is lost and a lot of the songs are boring, repetitive and mainly: depressing. The songs don't make you want to sing or scream besides a select few. Both I and II were held strongly together while III has no real focus or flow to it. In addition, even when a song seems to be good either the bridge or chorus just sucks ass and the added backup vocals or guitar ruin the music even further.

I can't call it a horrible album. On the surface though, it really is a failure in comparison to Billy Talent's first two albums.

I will never stop loving I and II. I like to listen to all three in a row over a week but I always am disappointed by how unsatisfying and pointless III is.

My favorites: White Sparrows, Rusted from the Rain

I finally decided to actually give this a try, knowing it had been panned by the masses. I have to say, this is just a textbook example of how to lose everything great about your band in an attempt to garner mass appeal. Truly sad.

I remember listenning to this and thought it was decent. The chords in Devil on My Shoulder are really cool.

Diamond on a landmine is one of their best songs, as is Pocketful of dreams. Eh maybe I just like this band too hard.

I think you may...this doesn't touch the first two. I don't know why I have it at a 3.5,

It isn't bad. I think if it had been my first BT album I would like it a lot more, but it isn't as

energetic as I like BT to sound.

It is strange listening to this right now. I think after a few years of not even listening to this, it

has actually grown on me. It kinds of reminds me of Green Day's "Warning," which I love. I can feel

the power behind the guitar more than I used to, and I know them toning down the guitar gain did take

away some of the apparent energy in the first two albums.

Still no idea why this is often considered weak. My favorite songs of the first two albums are the gloomier ones, so this album is right up my alley with stuff like White Sparrows.

Also do give a shot to the bonus track Don't Need to Pretend.

Saint Veronika and White Sparrows slay hard. And they're dark as hell.

There's so much great stuff in their discog so III often gets buried. Vastly underrated.
