Fixed, Nice is definately better than Amsterdam haha. And when did I ever 'steal' Crazy Frog off of you? I'm pretty sure you were egging me on haha.
But yeah, my small exposure to 'glitch' has been unfavorable so I can see where the 1 came from.
Turkey was great if as little underdeveloped. It was extremely hot (high 30's to low 40's) and Cyprus, despite being more southern, was cooler (low to mid 30's). In fact I had forgotten what rain was until I got back to stansted yesterday haha.
You been watching the ashes at all, your lot should have had that first test in the bag.

Did someone say Pussycat dolls?
my feelings for this album were perfectly encapsulated in davey's salaciously deviant, lusciously sexy review.

Fabriffic review, I gave it a little bit of a higher score as I actually enjoyed the majority of it.
You could always review the Bone Zaggin' EP if you still want to do Girl Talk reviews.

I like you, Davey. Saving me from music I would never listen to in the first place; so noble.

I haven't heard this one (I had to hesitate briefly to remember if I had forgotten it). I did feel quite impressed by Feed The Animals and Night Ripper, but it felt a little gimmicky after a while I have to admit (personally I don't think I listened to either nearly enough).
I do prefer The Avalanches album for this sort of thing.

since i left you's title track is like the most beautiful thing ever

I agree. There are so many high points on that release for me personally, I just find it so well constructed.
On a similar note: new album is close if the cryptic "clearing samples" message on their website is anything to go by. Heres hoping.

avalanches are a better personal listen, but girl talk and Night Ripper in particular I find to be a much better party album, mostly because of the instant familiarity of most of the samples and its ability to connect to the average music fan

That's better Ross. Yeah, Nice rules. And I know what you mean about Cyprus vs Turkey. It's like Santorini vs Athens weather. The latter is dry & hot, whereas the island has a nice cool breeze to counterbalance the sun. Of course, neither stands up to the "heatwave" that is 33 degrees in London! Haha. At least while I was there it didn't rain as much as in London as it did in a certain Welsh city over the past week. Nuff said! Grrr.
Yes Rudy, Marko (MassiveAttack) is going to do a PCD review. I think that's what he said anyway. And don't creep me out with your descriptions of my reviews. Haha.
Thanks moderndaydrool. I thought briefly about reviewing 'Bone Hard Zaggin', but I'm not even sure that I count it as an EP. I mean, 2 tracks!
That's me Caleb; Noble Davey. I am everybody's martyr.
It's a big step up from this to 'Night Ripper' & 'Feed The Animals' Meatplow. I guess that was partially what I was referring to in my introductory paragraph. He really did learn from a lot of his wrongs from this album.
I can't say I have ever given The Avalanches a proper listen. I must do so some time in the near future for comparison sake.
Interesting point on the familiarity aspect Rudy. I find that it is a bit of a two-edged sword actually. You are correct that an average music fan enjoys the familiarity aspect, but I also find they can get a bit annoyed when a particular sample doesn't go for too long.

true - this is why i feel feed the animals is a lesser album than Night Ripper

I gave both of those later albums another listen the other day & I still cannot split them. I agree with your point, but I also think the greater intricacy of 'FTA' could make up for that.
One more listen to both of them & then I'll rate them (& maybe do sound-offs).

fta is better than night ripper
it's pretty close

How'd I go with grammar & the like on this one dj?
|
| |
haha i actually didnt read it. doing nowwwww

k
get rid of the 'to' in the last sentence of the first paragraph it's unnecessary (...i think).
"The aforementioned track hints at the potential of the man, since it is a fantastic combination both musically and vocally as Kelly Osbourne morphs into Justin Timberlake, and then Reel 2 Real’s ‘I Like To Move It’ flows into artists as diverse as Lisa Loeb and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony."
in this sentence there are just two problems i'd say. i dont really think 'aforementioned' is necessary considering you mentioned it in the previous sentence, but whatever. 'potential of the man' confused me for a second; i'd say 'potential of the DJ' or 'gregg gillis' or something; i don't know, it took me a while to realize it was referring to girl talk himself.
i -think- the comma in the first sentence of the third paragraph is unnecessary, but not 100% sure.
'In addition, three interludes which are all around the one minute mark are disorienting wastes of time.'
nothing technically wrong with this sentence, but i like this a little better.
'In addition, three interludes, all of which are around the one minute mark, are disorienting wastes of time.' i also like the phrase 'clock around'. just saying.
'However, taken in isolation,' in a way i just don't like 'taken in isolation'; just a bit weird.
the end in a way is a little too impersonal; i loved the way you ended secret diary on a clever note; the ending here seems a little dry.
great review overall. awesome job!

DJ, you should request some sort of semi-staff position to be Sputnik's Grammar Nazi. Haha. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.
In all honesty, a lot of the points you mention above I mulled over. In fact, there were a lot more awkward sentences when I wrote the review a couple of days before posting it. So you have at least made me think more about wording before I post the review.
As for the impersonal ending, I'd love to have a clever ending to a review every single time. Unfortunately, it's not always possible.
I need to hunt down your reviews so I can return the favor? (insert maniacal laugh here).

I'll look out for it DJ. You're an excellent addition to the website. Although, I just checked out your album ratings & you're way too indie for my liking. That means you will fit right in here at Sputnik.
Hey Americro, yes & no. Yes eventually, but no right now as I really need to catch up on a heap of 2009 releases. Otherwise my year-end top 10 list will be the 10 new albums I've heard. And no-one wants Papa Roach to make that list... Especially me!
