thanks for the encouragement!

i think those 3 songs prove that they can do slower, simpler music just as well as their fast-paced, frantic music.

Your review says you were immediately put off by the asymmetry, the dissonance, the weird vocals, the seeming lack of melody and flow to a song from De-loused. There was something captivating in the midst of the noise - it was too complex.

Although I can't comment on the dissonance (as I don't even know what it means) I loved the asymmetry, weird vocals, lack of melody and flow (in places) of both "De-loused" and "Frances", but just feel it's mostly missing and everything is all too quiet and melodic on Octahedron.

I just hope the album grows on me a bit more.

I also note that you have only done 4 album reviews and hope you will be doing some more soon as I think are all excellent. Nearly as good as my favorite reviewer (Crysis) and he's (or she's) done loads!

You are correct - I am a lazy sod. However, as suggested, I looked up Dissonance (via google) and it gave me: A lack of agreement or harmony between things. A harsh, disagreeable combination of sounds.

Since We've Been Wrong reminds me of Hurt...the song. Anyone else?

Nice review. A lot better than John Hanson's.

Hurt by Nine Inch Nails? i hadn't thought about that, but i suppose there are some similarities.

and thanks...i felt John didn't go deep enough into the album, so i tried to dig a little deeper in my review. nice to know that the effort was appreciated!

I mean Johnny Cash's version. If I'm not mistaken, Trent Reznor's isn't much of a song...just
whispering with a bit of ambiance.

Just the verses, though; not the chorus.

yeah paxman you're right the acoustic on Johnny Cash's does sound kind of similar. i would definitely give NIN's version another try though. minimalism can be a good thing.

Will do. Guess I was mistaken. I do love his various Hurt performances with the piano.
