I've listened to many of the leaked songs, and thought this album is very good. and her voice amazingly completes the mood of this album with her abnormal accent. She is truly one of the greatest musicians of the Neo-folk up there with Matthew Sweet.

I'm a man who is big on women artists (singer/songwriters especially - A Fine Frenzy is one of my favorites of all time) - in fact, in modern music, I'd say I like more women than men. In classic rock, that's not the case. Anyway, I think one reason I like so many women is that overall, they focus more on melody. How much melody is in Tiny Vipers' barren songs?

You say in your review "haunting, slow-burning melodies"; that does get my interest up. AOL music has the album stream.

well then listen to this, but based on your album ratings, it doesn't seem like your type of thing. make sure you have an open mind when you listen tho

I'm up to the third song; her stuff is pretty so far. Not sure if I'd buy it, but you are right, you have to have an open mind.

I'm actually impressed with this. I know it isn't what I usually listen to, but if you take a song like "Time Takes," the sound takes a barren template and fills it in with guitar playing that is haunting, as you say.

I decided to give it a 3.5 - first half was better than the second half, but it really does reward patient listening.

Considering your review was so darn enticing to my tastes, I had to get it and am enjoying my first listen. This is darned beautiful.

I think the album is good on both sides. One of the arguments that most critics have is that the second half (presumably starting with Young God) is wayyy too slow. I disagree. It is slow, but not TOO slow. I don't think there's really any song that doesn't work. I think the flow is great; as good as it could be. "Development" is beautiful. The transition (and actual pairing) of "Time Takes" into "Young God" (Which are incidentally two of the most differentiating songs on the album) is brilliant. "Tiger Mountain" is a wondrous tale while "CM" is surprisingly confessional. "Outside" is an amazing closer, with her emotion finally peaking over the top. This album is supreme.

there is no doubt that this is a beautiful album, but the "depressingly bare" aspects of it that you touch on makes the album come to almost a complete stop at some points and make it hard to keep listening. there is no doubt she has incredible talent though. great review.
