they have a bassist?
that's a big reason why i dislike this genre. i mean it is okay if the bass is just repeating the rhythm in this case, but damn it, let me hear it!

yeah its barely audible in this. They are there for the sole purpose of making breakdowns more meaty.

I don't necessarily agree with what every one here is saying about the album. I can see the argument that the breakdowns seem too much like fillers for parts in the songs. I however, enjoy almost every aspect of this album. One of my only qualms with the album is that the singer could have done more with the melodies for each of the songs. He seems to follow the same formula each time he sings. What this band is doing is nothing new by any means but it's fun to listen to. I enjoy it thoroughly.

The first 3 songs is the best as already mentioned, but i beleive that the rest is very good as
well.. they might be a little weak compared to the first 3 songs with i think is 10/10.. The end of
Architech is simply amazing
The singer has an incredible range, and the music sounds alsmost perfect. The drumming is freakin
awesome, and its about time that a metalcore band uses the double pedal as fast as the drummer from
MMI does..
Simply amazing, also considering their low age!! FREAKIN AWESOME!!

"One of the best debut metalcore albums ever made..."
lool
You cant have been listening to metalcore too long. You must be a massive fanboy because there is quite a bit of criticism that can mentioned.

I can see where he's coming from, if it's one of the best debuts that show potential.

I'll admit that I've heard all this before. It's not ground breaking by any means. However, I don't think I've heard it exactly this way. Miss May I blends different elements together well, and the overall sound of the cd is tight. There are definite high lights on the album, and there are also some weak tracks. The breakdowns are at times generic and at times great... I have yet to hear a band do a break down that changed my life so this doesn't bother be so much.
If you compare Miss May I to the other metalcore bands, they definitely stand out imo.

fatkidinthecornr...dude i completely agree with you
and degner89...definitely feel the same as you
this album is awesome especially compared to many of the other bands in this genre. one of my favorite releases of the year. its different and better than a lot of its comparisons. as far as this review goes it was well written but i just simply dont agree. im not trying to rip on anyone here but this review just seems like they jumped on the bandwagon of putting down any new metalcore-ish band that replicates some typical sounds in the genre. i mean come on thats what makes it what it is! and no im not just some fanboy. but to each his own

Heard of a little band known as Underoath?

There is so much better metalcore out there than this I'm sorry, and they did jump on the bandwagon when it comes to following song formulas and regurgitating breakdowns. There are some enjoyable songs but if you are telling me that this is better than something like 'When I Am God' then you must be off your rocker.

Loveandthebullet,
I completely agree, this band has really impressed me. However, they seem to suffer from what I've experienced as "emery syndrome", repetitive, although I do thing the album is really good. Some variation within the beats, guitar/vocal tempo would be nice, AT LEAST for what would be a stand alone single.. Nonetheless I really am blown away by the talent of this young band and am excited to see what they can do in the future.

Sorry, I meant to say "think" instead of "thing".

Those first three songs are so good. It makes me sad that the rest of the album is so boring. If they just cut the amount of breakdowns they used in half, i would love this.
|

i think it shows very little potential to be honest. no way this band will be remembered.

I love how people are wondering whether the reviewer hates breakdowns or not when his avatar is "The Price of Existence" by All Shall Perish album art lol (one of my favorite deathcore albums, btdubz). Excellently written review and I couldn't agree more. I bumped them up an extra 0.5 in my assessment mainly due to the fact that I saw them live by accident the other day (they were opening up for Carnifex along with Conducting From the Grave (my personal favorite new band)) and they were quite excellent. They really got the crowd going even though no one had heard of them.

Very well written fella.
I only enjoyed 1 or 2 tracks on this album to be fair. The one that stood out the most for me was "Not Our Tomorrow".
With the members being so young I have to give them credit where its due! The talent these lads hold at such a young age is epic. They can only come back even better.

if you guys want to hear a much better version of miss may i, check out at the throne of judgment. they broke up a few years back but were the original melodic deathcore band rise records signed that were much more mature and musically talented IMO
