I agree with joshuatree. 2.5 at best. This is boring as hell.

even though this will probably turn out to be a 2.5, it's already far better than their previous 2 outputs

Good review. I disagree with a couple things though.

Copernicus is anything but "one of the most interesting tracks that the Mars Volta has made to date." I do like the song, but no. Its structure is really simple.

Also, Cotopaxi is one of the album highlights. If the entire album were mid-tempo and slow songs, the people who say this album is boring and drags like none other would have some foundation to their claim.

Of the albums I have from these guys (everything since De-Loused), this is probably my least favourite. Somewhere between a 3 and 3.5, I rounded up.

This is also their shortest album, I think.

Why does everyone expect TMV to create an album that sounds like Deloused or Frances all over again? I for one am glad they went a new direction.

I don't see the reviewer is a tool as well.

And I disagree, Cotopaxi is probably one of the weakest tracks on this album that sounds like it shouldn't even be on the album. Copernicus took a while for it to grow on me but now I love it.

I think Cotopaxi fits just fine.

Deloused has Televators to chill things out before Take the Veil destroys you, Octahedron has Cotopaxi to give you a shot in the arm. Same principle, only reversed.

Good review.

Well If you look at it that way, I guess it kinda fits.

Hows Cryptonesia?

Iluvatar summed up cryptonesia perfectly
"Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, fuck you."

"Hows Cryptonesia?"

Don't listen to that opinion about Crypto. I liked it(granted not the middle of the album). You should listen to it yourself.
