his best depends on what you're looking for. Mechanical Animals is probably the more popular one because of The Dope Show video, but it was the first record were the music actually mattered in the writing process which turned out very well. Antichrist Superstar would be more for you if you wanted something basic, fun and lyrically interesting. Holywood incorporates more influences than the other two but also has a handful of filler. The Golden Age has an artsy atmosphere, but still a couple filler tracks. now if you still don't know which one you want based from those descriptions just get Mechanical Animals

this was a good review, although I disagree at some points. This album doesnt really deserve a 1. Holy Wood is still always going to be the best though...even though Twiggy is back (which saved this band)

Mechanical Animals also has a glam/Bowie influence that makes it more palatable for me.

2009 has been a year of polar opposites thus far, with some of the best albums to be released this decade, along with some of the absolute worst.

In terms of metal, I disagree.

Summary was win, review was win. Album was....well.....

Hold on, this seems all over the place.

Antichrist Superstar has always been his general "magnum opus" amongst fans. I don't understand this "basic, fun, lyrically interesting" description. In terms of intricate production it is much more varied and has so much more going for it then Mechanical Animals, Trent Reznor's influence really having a huge effect on it. I would consider it comparable to NIN's The Downward Spiral in tone, and a relevant album for its period purely in terms of being exploitative pop music. It feels like nothing more.

Mechnical Animals has something of a glam rock influence, I don't know exactly what you mean by "were the music actually mattered in the writing process which turned out very well" regarding how it was written. Just like all of the guys albums a lot of the songs on Mechanical Animals aren't very good at all, and are exceptionally cheesy. To me at least it seems quite pale in comparison to Antichrist Superstar, which whilst as patchy as anything he has done had a very solid block of material.

This is a non-Manson fan speaking, and I can recognise this.

Manson blows.

I read an article/interview/whatever a while ago, and all he does is try to act mysterious and eccentric by saying things to shock.

He is a tryhard failboat

Frankly, I agree with a lot of the points you've made, like the fact that he isn't shocking. Manson persona aside, it's still a good album musically (not nearly his best, though) - songs like "Pretty as a Swastika" and "Four Rusted Horses" saved the album.

"Nothing's shocking. Go home, Brian."

He doesn't have to continue the level shock value found on the triptych, he's allowed to evolve just like any other artist.

@Meatplow; Ya I heard some songs off of Mechanical Animals, they kinda sucked, so I'll try out ACSS.

have you ever seen that onion article, "Marilyn Manson going door to door, trying to shock people"? that's what this album made me think of, it's really, really bad.

A decade is ten years. 2000 - 2009 is ten years.

wouldn't it be 2001-2010? like 1-10, 11-20, 21-30...
