this is probably the only reggae cd i have, but damnit it is amazing. there's about 1 or 2 songs i find to be the weak point, but for the most part it's such a chill, laid back, and just peaceful cd that i can't get enough of it.

I have to say I find Legend a bit of a bore, mainly because I am of the opinion that Bob Marley only made reggae 'popular' because the record company waited for Tosh and Bunny to leave the Wailers before mass-marketing Bob as solo artist to rock audiences. Some of the sings here (No Woman No Cry, Redemption Song) are undeniable classics, and the rawer cuts from his earlier albums with The Wailers are excellent, but songs like Jammin and Buffalo Soldier are simply bad pop tunes. I'd recommend getting the version with Punky Reggae Party as a bonus track, thats agreat song.

This has got to be the greatest album ever in my mind.

We should all live the peaceful life that Marley did. ...Well minus the smoking part lol

good review, i liked how you added where each song originally came from. Still sorta sad that his biggest album has to be a compilation. Shit, it's even reggae's biggest album, so that makes it sort of sadder.

Good review. Just to add the caveat that having this album should in no way be used as an excuse not to sample or buy Bob Marley's other albums as many of his finest songs were album tracks only and not even released as singles - tracks like Positive Vibration, War, Rat Race, Running Away, Them Belly Full, Ambush In The Night, Bad Card and the entire first side of the Exodus album come to mind. In most cases their quality exceeds much of the stuff on Legend. Still, I guess Legend is an easy and convenient way for many to dip a toe into the world of Bob Marley's music and perhaps reggae generally.
