Good point on my "so good it was used in a commerical" statement. I didn't use the best choice of words to get the context I meant across. The car commercial was trying to be edgy and used the main instrumental riff from "Taste in Men". I can't remember exactly which vehicle it was for, but it was a sporty car like the Mitsubishi Eclipse or a high end sedan, not a Soccer Mom's minivan. I was just trying to get across the point that the track was unique sounding and not generic, e.g. if you wanted a commercial to stand out from the rest it was an excellent choice. Rest assured, with Placebo being so obscure to the general public, most people who saw the commercial probably had no clue where the piece of music came from.

idk, Placebo are bigger than you think. They've got over 1M listeners on Last.fm

Placebo are frikkin huge for an alt-rock act, pretty sure anyone with even a slight interest in modern music knows them.

wtf Placebo are headlining festivals all over the world, getting high chart positions and so on. I don't have any numbers but I'm sure they belong to the best selling alternative rock groups out there.

Placebo ain't all that popular here in the US. I know they're huge in Europe, but they don't have a huge following here in the states. That's what I meant by their insturmental track in a car commercial shown on US televison not being easily recogized as a Placebo track by the "general public".
