CKY will never go to something different. they'll always stick to their trademark, unique sound. i mean, yeah each record has a different feel but in the end it's still CKY, which is a good thing. what did you expect this album to sound like? i'm not sure what you mean when you say you wanted them to "try something new". if people want something different then they can go turn on their radio or go check to see what's on the top 40. i will agree, the rats chorus has some weak lyrics, but pretty much every other part of the song (and the album) has awesome lyrics. what do you think of their other records? this seems to be the first poorly received CKY album on this site. V1, IDR, and AACBF all had pretty high ratings.

think youre taking CKY a little too seriously, this band wasn't really meant for that, good review, feels a little out of your element though
also, as the above says, I'm not too sure what you were expecting from this album, but as far as change, they do mix things up a bit, but they're never gonna depart from that CKY soundThis Message Edited On 05.18.09

if people want something different then they can go turn on their radio or go check to see what's on the top 40. that seriously made no sense at all.what do you think of their other records? this seems to be the first poorly received CKY album on this site. V1, IDR, and AACBF all had pretty high ratings. I enjoyed Volume 1 and IDR, but I though AACBF was fairly mediocre...and someone had to shine light on an opposing opinion lolalso, as the above says, I'm not too sure what you were expecting from this album, but as far as change, they do mix things up a bit, but they're never gonna depart from that CKY sound I understand that but I don't think they're that limited in what they can do as it seems like the above was describing. The only difference with this album is the implementation of keyboards, which was the highlight of the whole thing, so perhaps they just need to write better songs.

i don't really know what i meant by that either. fuck it. but i just read the review on allmusic. it's great, check it out. that dude knows what's up. not dissing you or anything (your review was a pretty good negative review) but i'm not sure what you mean by "they need to write better songs". how exactly? what does that even mean? songs that are more trendy/mainstream/radio-friendly? that's not what cky is about.

I have no bias for or against a mainstream sound, but no that's not what I meant. I do think it's evident by looking through their discography that the actual compositions rarely vary in terms of structure, I also think if they're going to keep using the triplet-feel riffing style then they should try to make them stand out from the others, which I felt they didn't on this record. The allmusic review was kind of random, but I guess that's because it was one paragraph, but when he mentioned they've put themselves in a tough spot commercially it makes sense because as you said they will always be CKY and nothing else....I just think they could've done more than just add keyboards to the same songs they've been writing their whole career
man I wish more debates would happen here, they're so fun

Yeah, now that my initial excitement over the album has worn off, I feel like I just got out of a relationship that I thought was a lot better than it was... there's a certain relief to it. It's a shame, because at times I really felt they were bordering on something great here. Maybe their next album will be their breakthrough, but who knows. I figure that this being their first record with the new label can only spell disaster for any followups. It seems good debuts by mediocre bands on major labels are destined never to be surpassed in quality.... (I'm so cynical.)

Your review was good Fire, I don't think this band is limited either, just that perhaps they limit themselves as a means of staying true to their original sound. I'll admit that in more than a few cases they do just need to write better songs, but something about the simplicity of this band's overall soundscape makes for fun listening for me.
As for the reception, lets give it a little bit to sink it, its still only got something like 10 votes on the site so far and was literally just released (aside from the leak)

The only reason CKY is considered mainstream is because of that douche Bam. I won't even bother telling my stories. She Never Returned and Plagued By Images are pretty strait.

I figured they were mainstream because of tony hawk video games

Really should get my review up for this. It's finished, just needs tweaking. Mine's more positive. Not decided between a 3 or 3.5 though.

Be warned Willie, these guys are really good at covering up how shitty they are (thank Jackass and their television show CKY for this).
Agreed Wiz, but I attribute this to the production which generally bounces all over the acoustic space. I listened to Volume 2 with headphones on and was horrified. They create a disorienting effect on the listener rendering he/she incapable of identifying them as shitty...

Good point WatchIt - their production really does distract the listener from the fact that there is absolutely nothing memorable about this album.

All of the songs really sound the same so by the end of the album it feels pretty stale. That said I did enjoy listening to this album but none of the songs really blew me away. I don't think any of the songs are terrible but the album doesn't have any really awesome songs like 96 Quite Bitter Beings, or Escape from Hellview.
I really like CKY's first two albums, but i can't say that i like the sound on this one or the last one. It feels like they've moved away from their signature rock, and instead are trying to play metal but disguising it as rock. idk it's hard to explain, but those two reasons really hold this album back, imo.

HAHAHAHAHAHA so you're referencing fanboy reviews, not that it surprises me since you seem like a fanboy yourself. Band is horrible.

Pretty much a good album, but the songs have the same structure and sound...the 1st half of the album kept me headbanging after that, the songs stagnate.
