No.
The guitar work is more complex. Sounds better. More original. Shows much more creativity.
That's nothing against pantera or dimebag.
IMO alexi is a more skilled guitarist. His solos are also much tastier. It takes more musical talent to blend lead (alexi's guitar work) with rythm and keyboards. Then Pantera's music. Which is way more simple.

Its also a huge style difference though.
So you conclude that Alexi Laiho is a better guitar player than Dimebag Darrel just becuase Children of Bodom's songs are harder to play than Pantera's??
Yes.
How can you not conclude that? I assume that, because the average Laiho riff/solo is a lot harder than the average Dimebag one. Not that this denotes better musicianship or songwriting, but it does mean that from what I've heard, Alexi is technically more proficient at guitar than Dimebag.
Whether Dimebag was a better shredder and hid his talents, I can't say, but I've based my assumption on what I've heard (all Bodom and almost all Pantera).

Yea I mean its hard to tell so I guess I understand your sides. And both bands are quite different as well.

ya they are

Toaster sumed it up there.
"Alexi is technically more proficient at guitar than Dimebag."
Thats nothing against dimebag. Completly different styles. Alexi's solos and riffs are more advanced. His lead riffs are much trickier and tastier.
Dimebag did alot more shredding. More power cords. Plain heavy guitar work.

It depends MMG, I bet some poeple finds panteras music hard to play a bodoms music is easier to play.
Dimebag was a master in his music genre but yes bodom plays the style of music that you have to play in a certain way.
Remember that there is always someone better, RIP Dimebag

Dimebag is from the area I used to live in (Ft. Worth). A crap load of people I know know him, and everyone says he is a really kind, down to earth guy, even if he isn't the sharpest guy out there. I know this is kind of unrelated to the album or the review, and I'm sorry Priestmetal.

I hate u for not giving floods 5/5 - its possibly my favourite pantera song. I havent any of the rest of this album so im unable to rate it - good review as well.

Cemetary Gates > Floods
By a landslide. I actually now think Floods deserves a bit less than what I gave it. Maybe a 4/5.

I hate u just that little bit more now :P - But anyway i think that floods is better than cemetary gates although the latter is good as well. Hollow can also be compared to both of these songs IMO.

Heard about half this album, pretty decent, I like the Title Track and Drag the Waters best probably - OK, Floods as well, it and Im Broken are what got me interested in Pantera.
On the Dimebag Vs Laiho argument above, I like what Ive heard of both's lead work and havent heard enough of COB to really compare them, BUT one of my friends, who is an excellent guitarist, says Alexei uses the same Neo-Classical scale 90% of the time, so if thats true, Id say Dimebag wins.

in my opinion these guys just tear it the fuk up on every album, and you guys know it

i am a fan of dimebag but i wouldn't say he is the best or that other people aren't better than him and neither would he.
now as for you weirdo pantera fans that say they went DOWNHILL after vulgar display of power....what's wrong with you...they we're going no where but up in my eyes album after album. trendkill could have had some songs removed but it was still great...and reinventing the steel is one of the best albums i've ever listened to...

There were probs thousands of guitarists out there who could play faster than dimebag when he was in his prime, however all those shredders were playing neo-classical shred pretty much all the time and although they were probabaly better guitarists than dimebag, few of them were as unique and although dimebag could shred, his solos had great rythm and everything. Dimebag was one of the GREATEST metal guitar players but that doesn't exactly meen he was the best. Hell people who say Hendrix is the best guitarist ever are talking shit. Loads of people could out play hendrix nowdays but his influence and his songwriting capability make him a GOD. Just playing quick doesn't mean there great. And those two dragon force guys are fast as fuck but there tunes are shit nd cheesy and they cudn't right a legendary riff if it smacked them in the face.

This album's pretty average, only 2-3 songs I'd listen to over and over again.
