Finally gave this a listen & don't know what to think to be honest. It's definitely different to their previous album. But like DavID insinuated, I think they jumped too far here. Some experimentation on a bridging album may have been the next step.
Apart from it being overblown, the worst thing about this album is its overlength. Not just in totality, but why do many of the tracks need to stretch out to over 6 minutes? In keeping with the concept, it's like listening to ads. And while some people enjoy watching ads on tv, I almost always flip channels.
I can see myself rating this anywhere between a 1.5 & a 4 in due time. But DavID has probably found the right compromise.

Tom, you must have looked into my mind as I was going to ask the question of whether the album has grown on or off you in your review.
I'm seeing them live on Wednesday too. It will be interesting to hear how they integrate the songs from this album with their previous safer cuts.

...Only on the first half of her tour. She is on a week's break at the moment (who wouldn't need it with all her shows) & when she picks back up tomorrow, Evermore replace Faker as support. Much of a muchness to me.
