just listened to a few off this and they were worse then I expected.

it's better than audioslave because it doesn't totally tarnish and destroy the legacy of 2 good bands. wow did audioslave ever water down and kill an AMAZING guitarist in morello. it's just sickening what audioslave did to morello, my god. not to mention turning cornell into a complete pussy.

I've heard the last two RATM albums in full and the first two Audioslave albums in full, and I will say Morello's guitar playing was a bit more interesting in Audioslave. In Audioslave, he did more stuff like fingerpicking and traditional solos, whereas Rage was almost all riffs and effects-heavy solos. It's all a matter of opinion in the end.

Great review Ali. By the sound of it, Barbarian's comment may be close to being correct; Timbaland fans will get a lot more out of this than Cornell fans. But come the end of the day, this is a Chris Cornell album technically.

Chris Cornell doesn't own anything any more. He belongs to the man.
|

well ya, on Evil Empire and BFLA Morello is pretty boring, but on S/T he slays every Audioslave album
|
| |
a very anti social act by Cornell
|

according to the press release, this is influenced by Pink Floyd's "The Wall".
Uhm...

omg wat a great observation

Timbaland sucks, plus he's a beat-thief.

Review isn't bad, everything I've heard from this album is though.

Morello isn't all that great to begin with, and the guitar playing he did in Audioslave was leaps and bounds better than the boring wanking he did with RATM. The majority of his stuff with RATM sounds like a guy who just learned a bunch of power chords and got a $3,000 set of effect pedals. Its funny because whenever I have this conversation, the only people who truly disagree with me don't know the first thing about actually playing a guitar.
But hey, to each his own. Cornell is a good singer though, which is why these albums are frustrating. I think he sounded best on the TotD album.

Unfortunately for him, these risks don’t appear to have paid off, with Trent Reznor’s recent comments seemingly summing up the feelings of musicians and fans alike
Erh, what comments? I'd love to read them.
On a different note: Cornell compared it to Dark Side of the Moon, not The Wall. I don't know if that's worse or not...
