Good review, as usual. I haven't heard this yet, I've been meaning to check it out for ages. I actually saw them live supporting Franz Ferdinand a few years ago, and thought they were pretty average tbh. Munich is an amazing song though.

great review, great album, and IMO correct rating - you hit the jackpot Davey :-). This is far better than their disappointing second effort and the vocals on this are pretty awesome at painting a bleak image.
since it was rather hyped (deserved or not) Indie album.
This would be because it is a British indie album, about 90% of them get hyped whether they are good or not. This Message Edited On 02.10.09

Great review as usual. I like Editors, both this and their second, but I think its a tad too repetitve to earn a 4.

Thanks Kane. It seems that people are liking me writing a shorter review. Of course, if I could control my writing length always, I probably would.
Thanks on the review Spamue1. I don't know about "dull & lifeless". I mean, I am not even a great fan of indie music and I find this ok. To each their own I guess.
Oh man, Editors & Franz at the same gig would have been a massive show Ali. I mean, they're different types of bands, but still.
Great to see you also agree on the rating Ross... Of course, we are going to disagree a little on the follow-up, but one out of two ain't bad & we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. And LOL re your comment on any British Indie album being hyped. You're probably not too far wrong on that.
Thanks Nagrarok. I do think their is an argument for the band being a little repetitive. But I tend to think that if it's good, then I don't mind a little repetition.

good review dave, i've only heard an end has a start but now i'm inclined to check this out. no doubt you'll review that one after you've finished off badly drawn boy.

Thanks Robin. I would have put money on you having heard both of the Editors album. Oh well, at least I would have won my money back on betting on you making a Badly Drawn Boy reference. One day I might shock you... I will expect a gold star if I do!

Great review... though I have to say this bored me. "Munich" is superb, but there was a real dropoff afterwards for me.

I actually noticed your rather low rating before posting this review SeaAnemone. It seems that 'Munich' pretty much impressed everyone, but the rest has not necessarily done the same. While I definitely think that is the highlight track, I don't think the dropoff was all that bad myself. But thanks for the positive feedback on the review anyway.

I liked this. I look forward to your review of their next record.

lol Haven't heard of these guys either!
However I'm starting my third review! whoop whoop!

I thought you'd be a semi-Editors fan DavID, although your "looking forward to your review of their next record" confuses me a little. I guess that means you thought it may not have been up to the standard of this debut?
Croc, these guys are sort of mainstream Indie. Your hard-rock loving tastes would only just be able to handle them I reckon.

haha i dunno. I absolutley love arctic monkeys, are they indie?
more importantly my third review is up! check it out y'all!

I guess the Arctic Monkeys are also mainstream indie, yet they are rather different bands. Where-as Alex Turner has a youthful thick-accented voice, Smith has a deep baritone that makes him sound older than he actually is. And where-as the Arctic Monkeys have a raw rocky sound to their music, the Editors rely more on U2 like soaring guitar melodies.
And yeah, I have stung your latest review Croc.

Great review. Just spun this whole for the first time in about 12 years and I have to say, it doesn't really hold up. I'd 3.3 it if I could.

In my youth the topic of who out of these guys & Interpol were better seemed to come up semi-regularly for some reason. For the record it's Interpol.

Same as The Killers v The Bravery for me. For my record it was The Bravery.

the bravery over the killers? damn son thats just wrong - literally their only good song was an honest mistake, whereas the killers had 2 and a half albums worth of good tracks

It was all abysmal.
