hey there hi there ho there
i just want to say when i initially posted the track listing i put down A Night With The Jersey Devil as a "Hidden Track." this is not accurate as it is available on the "Deluxe / Special Edition" of this album, which also includes the video of said song and 30 minutes of in-studio footage, dialogue, and a recording of the album documentary short. i guess thats what makes it deluxe or w/e. i have changed the track listing to reflect this
so yeah make me a mod :p
no but srs here is the video if no one has seeing it

Another example of Springsteen albums getting really high ratings regardless of quality. I like him, but really this is just average.

Strictly speaking it's a bonus track but it's on every copy of the CD and vinyl version of this no matter what country you live in.

In terms of Springsteen records I have this, Magic, The Rising, Devils and Dust and Born in The U.S.A.
I trust I should check out Born to Run?
|

born to run's the best thing he's ever done so yeah you should check it out

Thanks, man.
I'm told I'd like Nebraska as well?

Well if you enjoy Devils & Dust there's no reason you shouldn't like Nebraska. And I honestly believe The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle is the best album he has ever made. It's musically superior to Born to Run, just not as accessible.

just a heads up....
as you may know bruce is playing the Super Bowl Halftime this year. it had been confirmed tickets for his tour behind this album go on sale the very next day. all dates have not been confirmed or announced, but April 1st in San Jose, California is apparently a go, and some East Coast dates have also been confirmed. but...it looks as though the west coast is where it will begin. you can find out much more info at Backsteets.com. the forums there are listed under BTX
so far as Born To Run being the "best thing he has ever done" that is arguable. certainly one of his best and essential listening. it was in fact his breakthrough release and landed him on the cover of TIME and Newsweek magazine all in the same week. i recommend the 30th Anniversary edition, as the digital remastering really did good things for the recording.
my favorite Springsteen album is Darkness On The Edge Of Town. its a truly great work and the fave of many a Springsteen fan. do check it out. The River is outstanding, and Tunnel Of Love is an amazing record that finds Bruce playing most all the instruments. its mellow and basically a personal album. one of his best works imo. if you like the new album you'll find much to like there
and Nebraska, of course. a darkly themed album taken from BITUSA demos. the album is full of murderous tales and stories of people who have crossed the line in the worst sort of way
also i know The Wild, The Innocent....is very popular these days with revisionist, but its honestly kind of Bruce doing Van Morrison tbh, one of his biggest influences of that period. overrated as of today imo. its kind of experimental and given over to some "jams." a bit meh imoThis Message Edited On 01.26.09

the wild, the innocent is really good, but i agree with john that it's pretty overrated. i'm not a fan of tunnel of love for some reason, not am i of that whole 80's period. just don't like the songs as much
and nebraska's my second favorite of his, so yeah get that to atavanananan

i think The Wild, The Innocent has songs that really come alive on stage. that can be said of a lot of Bruce music, but that album in particular benefits from how a lot of fans came to hear those songs "live" and then project that on the album. The E Street Shuffle has long been one of my fave bruce songs ever. Rosalita is a classic rave up and great song. 4th Of July Asbury Park is fine on record, and Incident On 57th Street is one of the best things he did from that period. but thats 4 songs on a seven song album. Kittys Back is great live, not so much in studio imo. and the 10 minute closer and Wild Billys Circus Story are just....meh to me. its a seven song album and just not enough to be thought of as his "best" imo. if you put that album on and said "this is the best album of his career" and i never heard anything else by him, it would not make me want to listen to more :/
however...speaking of Kittys Back...i was THERE on this night. so close to the stage i could almost touch him, too

Wonderful album. "The Last Carnival" made me choke back a couple of tears. The sense of community and friendship in the E Street Band is like no other.
|

this is like a 3 - 3.5.
'The Rising' was better than this, but since then I'd say this is probably his best with 'Devils & Dust' being a close second. 'Magic' was lame.

I've recently fallen in love with Springsteen, can't wait to get this. really hoping I'll be able to see him on the east coast, it's pretty unlikely though

I'm really surprised by all the love for this. I listened to the album three times and it was a chore all three times. The writing is so easily the worst Springsteen's ever put out, and while I admire his willingness to try new sounds, they don't make it interesting.
