I can't tie any quick-witted comments based on the artist's name like you did in mine - so I'll say this. Good review

What's up with all the Def Leppard reviews lately, anyway?

Ross, their heavier stuff is indeed at the front end of their catalogue, although there is no one album that is filled with true metal or anything like that. This is arguably their heaviest.

Thanks for the positive feedback Ali & Nagrarok. And thanks for the elite feedback MaxyBoy.

Why the Def Leppard reviews? I went and saw them live in November and pretty much just listened to some of their early stuff before the concert. I was pleasantly surprised that they still kick major a$$ live. I was expecting them to be pretty ordinary, but they were exactly the opposite.

Haha. I just noticed your avatar MassiveAttack. I live in Melbourne-Australia and there are many many Croats here. I get the feeling you are as passionate about the country as all of them are too.

Haha OK cool stuff Davey =]

On a totally unrelated note, anyone know when the new Franz Ferdinand album comes out, because I want that to be my next review, but if it's a long way off I'll start working on some others.

24th of Jan here is Australia.
I'm curious to hear it actually, so i'll read your review if you do it. Their s/t was brilliant, i still listen to it every now and then. but the 2nd was a real let down apart from the catchy as hell singles.

24th isn't that bad, means I can revise; then it comes out after my exams, looks like I'll stay on hiatus till then.

I absolutely agree with that, their s/t used to be one of my favorite albums ever until about a year ago. So far I have only heard Ulysses and I am quietly confident this will at least be a good, if not great album, of course I could be proven completely wrong. This Message Edited On 01.06.09

Alligator, your city is also my city. I was at Rod Laver Arena on Melbourne Cup eve watching them blow the roof off the place. I still am surprised how good a show they put on, although Cheap Trick disappointed as the support act.

I also like Muse's 'Hysteria'. Must be something with that word!

As for Franz Ferdinand, I am a big fan of theirs also. I absolutely loved their debut and find myself coming back to it often. They actually just toured Oz and I was umming & ahhing about going to see them, but decided against it. I know others are exactly the opposite in the hope of hearing new songs, but I don't like it when a band tours just before they release an album.

Having said that, I can't wait for it to be released and will eagerly anticipate your review Ross.

yup i completely agree (with both of you)

From what i've heard the new album sounds like the first with better production, so i'm interested in hearing it. Plus, i'm sure they will be return to Oz when the album is released even if it is the end of 2009 or something.

Like say, Green Day, they came out just after American idiot dropped, then came back to end the world tour.

Oh yea man I just started watching their international matches before I started college in '07 my God was that Turkey loss a heart breaker. Never, in any sport have I been so blissful in one moment, to depressed and frustrated in a span of 60 seconds! This Message Edited On 01.06.09

Alligator, I haven't heard any songs from the new Franz Ferdinand album (for some reason, I tend to prefer to wait until the release/leak of full albums or genuine singles), but from what you say, that sounds excellent.

I didn't hate their 2nd album by any means and like you suggested before, the singles off of it were great. It was just that the depth of the album was weaker when compared to their debut.

MassiveAttack, inconsistency and ups & downs seems to be a hallmark of Croation sport. When it comes to football/soccer, they can miss qualifying for the World Cup one time & then win the whole damn thing the next!

yeah i didn't hate it. but it was a classic case of brilliant singles, but other songs not up to the standards. i usually prefer to wait too, i just 'accidently came across' two of the songs.

btw you mentioned Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, did you see them when they rocked melbourne? they were both excellent concerts.

Nah Alligator, in addition to not being as much of a fan of Priest & Maiden (when compared to Def Leppard), I don't really know too many fans of those bands to go to the gig with. Most had already spent a fair bit of $$$ on Def Lep & have already started saving up for potential AC/DC and /or Metallica concerts.

Fair enough. I heard somewhere that Metallica won't be coming round due to the "financial crisis". i would most likely end up going to both those gigs if they occur though.

Yeah, a few months back, the word was that both bands would tour, but the Metallica whispers have practically disappeared. If they do not tour, I really think the "financial crisis" would be a cop out though, it would more be beacuse they were exhausted or lazy. I'd say they would go close to filling arenas like the Telstra Dome (roughly 55,000 capacity) and at probably over $100 for the average ticket, that's a crap-load of moolah.

AC/DC will definitely play the Dome I reckon. Since it's been so long since they toured & their new album was in the top 5 highest selling LPs of 2008, then they are bound to sell very very well.

Haha, I've never heard the term "Penis Pop" before Trey. Thanks for the agreement on this album, although telling us all that your mum loved Def Leppard may give more ammunition to the band's critics. ;-)
Never heard that before? I thought it was a pretty regular term for describing a lot of those 80s bands.

You're right, it might give people more ammunition but I'd rather have a mom that introduced me to bands like Def Leppard and Queensryche than some whacked out woman who believes I'm listening to the devil's music ;)
