my point still stands that most people haven't heard of them so can they be called mainstream? plus the fact there aren't any other mainstream affiliated bands that sound anything like the volta

Their unique in the mainstream, which they are in. Word of mouth doesn't determine whether or not your band is mainstream, the record label does. They belong to one of the richest and widely known labels in the world, they are a mainstream band in every aspect except for their progressive tendencies.

thanks for that - it's not like i wasn't aware of that fact or anything. bloody hell all i was trying to say is that basically nobody over here has heard of the band. for example in my sixth form of 350 kids i can guarantee that no more than 4 or 5 of them would have heard of the band. This is the 16-18 year demographic which is where out of any particular age group you'd expect most people to know the band.This Message Edited On 01.04.09

Who's going to save the day now? Youse guys should check out The Stilleto Formal. They got a Mars Volta vibe, and really good. Good as in good. Chicks have poor taste in general.

thats not me saying you're illogical for thinking that - i was using that as an example of how big their popularity difference is between the 2 countries. The fact that you wouldn't have been surprised that 80% of people would have heard of them! that's all.
