Nah, Bedtime Story is awesome. The ending is good too - particularly the lyrics.

And yeah, what Balls said.

Actually I have listened to those earlier albums, and I just don't like them.

This sounds really bad (and it is), but I just like their catchier stuff more. sorry. I like music that sucks I guess.

^Eh, I used to be the same. It took me ages to get to love IF's older stuff.

If want to get into In Flames' older stuff id start with Clayman, work your way backwards from there.

I agree. Clayman seems to capture the best of both worlds.

No mention of Leeches? That song rules.

Very nice for a first review. Your comparisons to flyleaf are actually dead on, the band has gone downhill since Clayman. This is not a bad album though, still listenable.

if Scar Symmetry is Melodic Death Metal(and they mostly use clean vocals and only a portion of growls) then In Flames is still definitely Melodic Death. except on songs like Come Clarity and Reflect the Storm.

and Crawl Through Knives is nowhere near as good as Vanishing Light...or Pacing Death's Trail...

Reflect the Storm is the exact same genre as the rest of the disc bar, as is Come Clarity - its just a ballad within that genre.

Crawl Through Knives owns purely because of the sentiment behind it. Greatest love song ever.

Pretty good review. I like some songs in the album, though the title track is beyond pathetic...I wouldn't say it's great, though.

I was actually kidding with most of that, but listen to the song "Whoracle" or the song "Dawn of a New Day" or "Metaphor" or some of the older songs and I find folky acoustic playing.

It's not much, and it hasn't surfaced recently, but it's definitely in there.

Dialogue With The Stars screams folk, just with electric guitars and no traditional vocals

Yeah, the opening of Dawn of a New Day sounds a tad folky.
