I prefer to spell it a$$, coz it's all about the mon-ay!
Oh man, I just had a read of Dave DeSylvia's review of this album. Here's what he had to say about your fave track DavID... Ouch!: "The lyrics are generally poor, or rather, much less clever than they’re intended to be. ‘Love’s Not a Competition (But I’m Winning)’ is the lowliest example, a sad excuse for a Morrissey-ism."This Message Edited On 12.10.08

good review Davey. I disagree with you on a few points, but thats to be expected. I really don't see how you can think Heat Dies Down and I Can Do It Without You are unmemorable, as I think along with the first two tracks, they make up the only interesting songs on the album.

It's a 'Ruby' backlash! I dunno, to me it takes the simplicity of some of the better tracks off 'Employment' and adds to it. I understand it's still not a world-beater, but it's the best of an average bunch in my opinion. Hell, it was the only single at all from this album that had any kind of success.
|
| |
yea but that bloody success was being played at least once in an hour by every radio station for about 4 months.

Oi, I'm out of the loop here but why do you call me DavID?

Ahhh, now the truth comes out ClearTheLane... The old "I hate that song because radio stations overplayed it" reason.
Nah, that doesn't cut it with me... (a) It's not the band's fault that it was overplayed by radio, and (b) I don't listen to the radio!

Haha... I've been calling you that for over a month DavID... & now you ask...
Remember that confusion on one review between DeSylvia, you & I. Well, you christened yourself with the 'id' on the end, so I capitalised it to make it clearer!

...Always mate. By the way, if you didn't know, the Soundwave timetables are already up in the forums to the main Soundwave website, so go check out all your clashes (Alk3 > NIN).
$hit Ross, I totally missed your comment up there... Sorry about that.
Yeah, don't take me the wrong way on those 2 songs (+ the other 2 I mentioned in the same sentence). I may not have put it clearly enough, but the reasons I even mentioned those 4 (in addition to my 3 highlights) was because I thought they were quite good. But in a sense, their lack of something special to top them off is a barometer of sorts for the album. It's what makes the album totally (here's that word again;) "average".

Ahh thats alright, to be honest I just posted then left, as I had to give some work in. Yeah, personally I like them as tracks, but I don't think the album is as consistent as you say it is. For me it's average, but only because the good tracks are canceled out by some complete shite. But yeah I agree with your 2.5 rating mate, spot on there.

This bands popularity is an indictment of English music.

Ross, it looks like we have taken different paths to get to the same destination... I just think the album is consistently average.
Oh come on Boognish... What about The Spice Girls? And doesn't Elvis Presley make the top of the charts intermittently?
