What happened to 'Jesus Walks' and 'Touch The Sky', 'Diamonds From Sierra Leone' and 'All Falls Down'?

fixed it for you dude.

I obviously disagree but I think it's a good review. I hated this until I stopped wishing for another College Dropout or Late Registration and decided it's a good album.

I'm not pissed off at anybody but Kanye, and proving a point is typically what people go for when they review somebodies creative work. I'm sure if I wrote this without trying to make a point you'd have something to pick at too.

this is true.

And hip-hop is more than music, if you can't comprehend that then you should really study up on the subject.

agreed.

Hip-hop is not as straightforward with emotion - as I said in the review a song is a metaphorical being, and in hip-hop the metaphor is regarded as sacred, and on 808s the metaphor is completely disregarded aside from some cool song titles.

Are you being serious here?

Cocaine, the metaphor is one of the largest parts of hip-hop music, it is almost an inevitable omnipresence in the music, if you can find a hip-hop song that lacks metaphor in the lyrics then I commend you. And I think it'd do wonders for your argument if you actually, you know, argued or something. This Message Edited On 12.03.08

"more respected members?"

who are you kidding?

and i'm being serious here!

music evolves, its in flux. hip hop included. Kanye hasn't broken any "sacred" rules on this album

its ridiculous This Message Edited On 12.03.08

Yes but you can't include 808s in the hip-hop genre PunkItUp, call it the evolution of pop music if you will.

It wasn't an argument so much as me saying that it seems like you're reviewing this in the context of it being "untrue" hip-hop or that you're reviewing it in spite of those who "wrongfully" claim it to be some revolution. My "argument" was that it comes off as pompous and the context seems more juvenile than it does useful. Of course my sentiment is amplified by your tendency to create new arguments by continually attempting to talk down to me regarding "true" hip hop and some pretentious bullshit about metaphors. I'm not about to nitpick some pretentious statement you pulled out of your ass just because you have the nerve to tell me to "study up" on hip-hop. It's probably a lost cause, but you should probably get your head out of your ass before it becomes permanently lodged there.

well then review the album for what it is. if you think its more pop or w/e, review it as such. if its good as such, say so

don't pan it because some say its hip hop or its being sold as such and you disagree based on what YOU think or say hip hop is

i'm not saying what it is. i'm saying its a good album. what you call it or don't call it isn't as important

no one is trying to kill off a genre here

this is kinda silly This Message Edited On 12.03.08

Cocaine, its common knowledge that hip-hop is not pop music, thats all I'm trying to say. The metaphor is just one of hip-hops main aspects that Kanye dodged on 808s and yet, people continue to claim 808s is modern hip-hop when in reality it is club pop. I told you to 'study up' only on the assumption that you do not regard hip-hop to be more than expressive music, hip-hop is a culture that has been around for years and it shapes the lifestyles of millions of people on this planet.

And PunkItUp, I reviewed it as a hip-hop album because one its under hip-hop on this site and two, if it is considered something it is simply not by so many people, perhaps a different opinion is in order. This Message Edited On 12.03.08

dude you're taking your blanket and narrow idea of what hip hop IS and biasing your review with it. period

not because it is or isn't hip hop. just because the album is not awful

Its not my idea, hip-hop is regarded everywhere as a culture, an extension from a simple recording into the real world. Hip-hop is considered to be life by some people.
