Glorious album with maybe one questionable track. Some all-time classics like House of Sleep or The Smoke present. And an incredibly tasty production.

This is the album where Amorphis's brand of Folkish Melo death started to really take flight (despite really bad production)

50 pages for Silent Waters and 2 pages for Eclipse? Only thing preventing me from giving it a 5 is the folksy Brother Moon which sounds out of place for a tragic story like this. Other than that, absolutely brilliant record with stellar production, The Smoke and Empty Opening are simply GOD TIER. Joutsen here sings quite different than on subsequent records, probably this kind of technique would have damaged his voice had he used it further on but it still sounds raw and amazing.
