I always had a love/hate relationship with mudvayne. I compare Mudvayne to chinese food: when im in the mood for it, I MUST have it. Fucking awesome review too!

Excellent review. I think I like this album because I had such low expectations going into it. It's nothing special but it's passable.

Thanks a lot Willie, it means a lot coming from a staffer such as yourself. Now the only step up is to be featured, but that ain't gonna happen.

great review. the only problem i have is that you think "have it your way" is the best song on the album, yet you hate "dull boy." i agree it feels like a slap in the face to have the song there, but "have it your way" is one of the weakest songs on the album. i personally like fish out of water, new game, and cinderella story.
i am starting to get pissed off with mudvayne. LD50 and TEOATTC were awesome. but they seem content with releasing this tepid streamlined crap. i heard the summer album will be more complex, and technical (more akin to TEOATTC).

overall I think it is more mature.... im in a band i I know fans are a big part of sucess but not the actual music...bands are here to make music that comes from themselves to express themselves. Ive felt that each of their albums has expressed something different.

Can you please explain how it is more mature? The lyrics are absolutely horrid in some parts, the music itself, with the exception of Ryan Martinie, is stale and nothing new, and it all seems like they have done it better before. I was unaware that maturing meant releasing Lost and Found Pt 2

^ go look at some of the comments on youtube. if you so much as mention that LD50 and TEOATTC were better than this pile of drivel, you'll be greeted by fanatical fans who spout "OmFg ure an idiot! it's caled theyre matooring and progresing for teh better. lol ure not a reel mudvayne fan if u tink theyre old stuff is beddar!1"
apparently maturation to some people is releasing commercial pop metal with significantly dumbed down lyrics/instrumentation, and a few boring ballads in between for variety. mudvayne was at their peak with their first two albums.

curseworship...the key phrase was that i said I THINK it is more mature, not it is more mature...yes the lyrics suck and all i just think the band has advanced a bit in songwrting with the exception of chad

I agree somewhat, but the complex song structures are completely gone. They dumbed down their songwriting to appeal to a broader audience.
Talk about staying power, this is dropping for me already. This Message Edited On 11.19.08

yeah my rating is dropping, but i still think its pretty good...i was just looking forward to another mudvayne album...

p.s. i remember the day of people biching about no solos and and stuff like that... now that it has happened it seems to come at a price....try fitting a solo into ld50 and it wont fit. They have slowly evolved and allowed solos and a more straightforward appeal to a larger audience. That is maturity to me, wether it be for the better or the worst. This Message Edited On 11.20.08

Ok so I read both, and both had similar things I noticed so I'm just going to post in this one. You definitely write well, better than a lot of users who have written more reviews than you, but the biggest issue I had with both reviews is that it's incredibly formulaic. You begin many sentences in exactly the same way, and there is an overall 'then this happened then it was like this, also this other thing is like this but only such and such happens'. This isn't so much of a flaw in you, more a thing that everybody has when they first start reviewing, and I think it will gradually disappear. All you need to do is read this aloud, and get someone to check it for you; in most cases, doing one or both of these things will easily help you spot awkwardness caused by everything sounding the same.

Well written and very generous appraisal. 2 questions:
1. Will the total absence from the RS 40 mean that it will still sell well?
2. Is Fortman a mole?

ugh, i listened to this again recently and realized i was way too fucking generous in my review. Poor, poor Ryan Martinie, wasting his time in this band.
