This is actually the first time I've ever listened to them.

I really feel that people are under-evaluating this album. Come back after you have listened through the whole thing a couple of times through, it really is brilliant. Sure it lags in some parts but songs like Out and In and In and Out, 1989, Salt, and Never Pleased make the trip totally worthwhile. I can't count how many times I've listened to 1989 just to hear it transfer into Our Way. I really think that this was a brilliant move for Portugal. The Man after making the heavier rock affairs that were Waiter and Church Mouth. It definitely isn't what you're used to from them, but this album is really what gave me the respect for them that I have when taken in light of the other records they've made. I urge the people who gave this low scores to give it another chance.

I can't count how many times I've listened to 1989 just to hear it transfer into Our Way its not bad, necessarily, and that transition is ace. what is sad is that transition is directly out of the beatles basics (a la abbey road)
this album is fantastic, in a sense that a little indie band can reach the musical heights of classic rock in an album without a production company or budget of any similar magnitude. what makes this more average is that this isn't foreign ground for any music fan; these high points are bloated with use from other bands that suck more than portugal, but take the same notes from the same popular classic rock bands throughout.
anyways, what i meant to say was i hope soccerjunkie is a member of PTM because i want to hang out with you guys and feel important

I personally think it was a great cd. I always like it when songs have a good transition into the next. Church Mouth was just as good if not better imo

I usually agree with iluvatar's ratings, but this is superb. I try not to give a 4.5 to just anything. but every song here can spark an emotion from me.
This is one of the most enjoyable CD's I've heard this year. (To be honest this beats out fortress by protest the hero in terms of enjoyment for me.)
the atmosphere of this CD is amazing.

i've been digging 'waiter' so hard lately, it's all i listen to. i listened to church mouth once and it ruled too so i'm excited to listen to this. i think i'll review their discography considering all the reviewers so far have been faggots. finally a divergent school

^true.
i thought you were with nick on that both releases since suck.
edit: oh snap, look what i dug up from the waiter thread: Portugal the man is just really really really average and unexciting to me.

Censored Colors was lame this is ok
did you mean church mouth?
that or im really confused all of a sudden
|

yeahhhh, church mouth sure had its moments, but they were so few and far between that it almost sounded like they werent even trying.
nothing tops waiter though
|
| |
Church Mouth was probably the worst album I listened to more than once last year.

There were sections that were sick, but I didn't like it as an album and hardly liked any individual song enough to keep. I haven't listened to it for a while because it was one of those 2 listens and a hard drive delete kind of albums.
