If they got rid of Jacob Bannon ;)! I know, I know, but their music is still intense as fuck.

Jacob Bannon is Converge, if they got rid of him, they just wouldn't be the same band.

I know they wouldn't be the same, they would be better ;).

^ I'm agreeing with wizard here. Ummm, why is everyone suddenly slating All That Remains? They certainly aren't pathetic compared to metal in general, just this album. If it wasn't for Shadows Fall, these guys would be my favourite metalcore band, I have to say.

Converge buddy, Converge!

Get rid of Bannon, and I MIGHT just agree. But they'd probably have to replace him with Brian Fair for that, even so. Dammit, I just love Shadows Fall!

Converge are pretty damn amazing.

"I am starting to think Trivium are just a bunch of generic and mediocre musicians who gave people the illusion of talent."
Trivium has never really played metalcore music, contrary to popular belief. People forget that just because a song has single string riffage and breakdowns it doesn't have to be metalcore. If that were the case then Slayer, Metallica, Testament...all metalcore...and we all know they aren't.
I just find it astounding that people think the new Underoath album is good metalcore...because if you ask me it's some of the most generic music the sub-genre has produced in the past 2 years...and that's after buying the album and listening to it at least a dozen times trying to see what people on this site see in it.

I don't care much for Underoath, really, but I absolutely HATE Trivium, along with most of the people on this site. They just don't get the idea of writing their OWN songs, rather than trying to write them like another band would and failing. That said, I somewhat liked what I heard off of Shogun, I might check it out.

The funny part about that argument is...you said the opposite of the truth...Underoath isn't really metalcore in the traditional sense, and Ascendancy was totally 100% a metalcore album in the purest sense of the word...palm muted riffs + heavy verses/melodic choruses + breakdowns + metalcore song formula generally ='s metalcore...

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought too... But, back on topic, this album sucks, doesn't it? :P

It doesn't really suck...its actually a decent enough album but the fact that I know they are capable of so much better makes it seem worse than it is

If they got rid of Jacob Bannon
Agreed, if the music was pretty much the same then they'd be better. Although I can stand his vocals now and I might be starting to love Jane Doe. Funny how that works.

Pretty much. I wouldn't be bothered with the singing on this if it wasn't so good on their previous album.

You do make a point, but all those bands also had loads of punk influence, since Thrash is, after all, hardcore punk mixed with heavy metal.

Well I must disagree with most of this review.
As a review, you should at least say things with an open mind. Not saying your views and trying to back it up as if it were a fact.
You don't like it, that's all I got from this. You didn't help at all, and this was very poorly written.
|
| |
While I also disagree with most of this review if not all of it, this was not poorly written. It was quite well written, actually, enough for a pos from me.

I see I got my first ever neg. Yay, life's complete! Sorry but I have to say that what you negged me for is a load of bullshit. You SHOULD try and back up your opinions as if they were a fact in a review, because you're trying to tell people what you think of it. You can only go as far as you feel in a review, and I have to say I'm slightly upset about the neg. Especially considering the other comments calling it good and pos'ing it. Not that I thought this review was good, it's just that what you said doesn't apply to it, so I don't see why you're negging. Didn't get anything from it apart from that I didn't like it? Perhaps read it rather than just look at the summary box and score. You seemed to have missed my long paragraph about how bad Phil's vocals were, not to mention the power chord riffs and same distorted guitar tone all the way through. How about the distant vocals? The drumming? The boring bass? All of that and more is in this review, while you could say it wasn't written that well (although it seems most people don't agree with you), you can't say that there was no more to it than 'I didn't like it'. I think you probably made that account simply to piss people off, seeing as how stupid your comment was. This Message Edited On 09.22.08
