I must admit i agree with the review. I have a real soft spot for this band and enjoy their music quite a bit, but I can't help feel disappointed by this album. Some of the songs are fantastic and create a new 'feel' to TBE, then there are a fair few rather boring and bland sections.Still better than Begins Here, though IMAGO is alot more consistant and makes for a better overall album.

Yeah it isn't better than Begins Here, also I feel Window and the Watcher is the only weak track.

Sonofabitch postage delivers were late and didnt get to me on friday. Now I'm going to have to wait until monday. Bastards.

And at first listen (I gave in and listened to the stream) it sounds rather alot like Imago. But still, better than Begins Here (anything by them is, seriously, I found BH boring as all hell).

Not better than Begins Here imo, but I prefer this to Imago frankly speaking. There are many great songs on this album (Worlds On Fire, Room Without A View, In These Hands, 7 Days, Rain), but still some songs are half-baked and not really that much progressive. I have a feeling this cd is a grower though. This Message Edited On 09.20.08

"Despite some shining moments, there appears to be little to no heart or effort left in what TBE are doing as musicians."

Are we even listening to the same album, this has far more emotion and feel to it than Imago did. It's also far heavier. It's a huge step forward, the guitar work is better, there are jazz elements incorporated into it.

I also don't find it to be as predictable as past efforts, songs like The World on Fire and 7days still surprise me with certain parts after multiple listens.

personally I think this is a well executed, wide-ranging album that is far better than imago. Can't wait to see it live!

Actually, atm I'm still preferring Imago, there was so much more emotion to it. But I'm sure after a few listens I might change my mind - Rain and The Way are the only weak tracks to me (the first one only because Clints voice is drowned out by the guitar and its a pretty standard rock song).

Highlights:

- And the Promise of the Truth

- Window and the Watcher (most energetic song)

- Final Conversations (purely for the chorus)

- Worlds on Fire

EDIT: And I'm still too young to see them live. Aaargh! The nearest place to me is supposedly all ages, but all the ticket sellers are giving them as 18+.This Message Edited On 09.22.08

Picked it up Saturday. Was a tad disappointed. They picked the worst song to kick the album off. After listening to the first two and half minutes of World on Fire I had to make sure it wasn't a new Muse song. Chord progessions, vocal/guitar/bass/drum patterns all sound like Muse.

The rest of the album has no plagiarism... just lacks any punch. A little limp, but some songs should translate well live.

Also they could have cut Window & The Watcher. One of the most unimaginative songs they have ever recorded. It's only saving grace is the breakdown in the bridge... but that's only 15 seconds.

Far too tame

the only thing predictable about this album is probably clints lyrics other than that its a huge step up from imago. the guitar work is much more technical

Mmm, I read in a magazine interview - he was spouting out that this was a concept album and each song is from a different character and its all the lead up to 'war'. Bullshit. Imago was a concept album, this isn't.

Well, this album was a tad disappointing in two ways. One was the length- 10 tracks is a bit lazy. Two, it took ages to get any kick out of a song, and sometimes it seemed a bit weak.
I loved Begins Here- I don't why people are canning it. I think that was the best in terms of grungier sound, but it's impossible to pick a favourite out of all of the releases.
I don't dig too much of this sound change per album though, but I'll buy it regardless. I'm hooked.
